Go. It is your destiny.
Go as in 'sing with them' or go as in 'go to the board'?

Go sing with them all the way to the board.

((I'm taking Froggy's suggestion as sing.))
...sure, I'll sing.

Ha, good! All right everyone! Let's sing a few!

At the drunk's words, a man in the back pulls out an odd-looking string instrument and begins to play along with the songs. For twenty minutes, you and the patrons sing a multitude of songs. For the final ballad, you all sing this song.

Thank ye for singing, lad. Always nice to stretch my jaw! Though I can't say ye're as good as I remember ye. Ah well. Thank ye again, and may the world go well with thee!

Thank you too. See you later.

Now you go to the board by the entrance. It's contents are all about various requests for a mercenary or adventurer to help with a task.

You should take one or two down and show them to Mel, and decide what to do.

Uuuuhhhhhnnnn.... Rats are basic adventurin' quest enemies! We could... Kinda... Breeze through it! But, the first one has good(ish) pay... And we'd likely have some others with us, and we can't put it off... Take one and two....

The other two are... Less than acceptable, since we don't know what we would be getting ourselves into.

Taking down the first two flyers, you head back over to Mel's table. On the way, a patron surprises you by passing over a few coins.

Here you go, boy. That's for the good singing! Not to mention you look a tad hungry. Best of luck.
[+5cp!]
Thanks a lot, sir. Anytime.

Continuing on, you find that Mel is still seated at the table. Grinning, she begins to talk.

Great singing, Jon! Why'd you go and do that? You haven't been one to burst into song so far as I've known you.

Oh, well, you know. The voices in my head told me to.
Her grin widens.
Of course! Of course! The voices told you to! That makes total sense. You sure you weren't trying to impress someone?
Anyways, what do you have?

Ah, these are some job requests from that board over there. I was thinking we should do one of them. We need some money.
Yeah we need some food too... Here, give me those.
Mel reads the flyers.
Guarding a caravan? You think we could do that? What about bandits and animals and stuff?

The job pays really well, and we'll more than likely have other people with us guarding it.

Okay. And rats. Really? Why rats? That's literally the most cliched thing we could do right now. And the pay isn't too good.

Maybe, but it's also the easiest thing we could do. Not to mention, any money helps. Can't hurt to have a good reputation, either.

What are you going to do now?

((To the rats..!))
Going over to the tavern-keeper, you purchase a hunk of dried beef. [-5cp] You split it with Mel, and head out of the tavern. Outside, you find a board of signs indicating where each of the districts are. You are currently in the Rose District. How should you go about finding Mr. Alern's house?

You ask a passing woman where you could find Mr. Alern's home. She points you towards the western wall, the house nearest the district gate. Heading over there, you find the correct door and enter. A man inside seems to have used a bunch of various furniture and pillows to barricade the stairs to his cellar.
Uh, hello. Are you Mr. Alern?

Yes! Yes! Have you come here to help with my rat problem? Can you help me?

Yeah, we found your flyer.

Wonderful! If you would help me remove this stuff on the stairs, you can get to the slaying right away!

Removing the barricade, you and Mel enter the cellar and engage the rats.
((Combat will begin next update. Do you guys want me to show the combat rolls?))
