Certainly wasn't.

Problem is that some of the roles are crazy powerful if made town only - and the limitations of trying to keep some semblance of historical accuracy.

Welp, I'll just switch this to a discussion topic, get it tinkered back towards balance and then make a new one and ask Meph to scrap this.
Sorry all.

Can the Neutral roles only be applied to the "vanilla" roles, or literally anyone? Could there be a gun-toting samurai?
I thought it might be putting too many eggs in a single townie basket.

I sent you those suggestions, but even an unbalanced game can be enjoyable.  And this game is only slightly unbalanced, if at all.  I just flipped out, sorry about that.

And when I say sorry, I mean I am REALLY sorry.

And that I want in

(btw, people did a similar thing to Persus's first game.  There was an entire page of nitpicking over the nature of the third parties and their wincons and the game still ended in a bizarre fashion with a bandwagon lynch on the last townie because he was town.)

For those who want to know what my suggestions were, so they can be debated by the wider audience:
The blunderbuss guy is fine
The monk is given the ability to ignore all night actions other than kills, making them immune to terrify, thus giving them town utility.
Change terrify so that the player can cast a legitimate vote, but die at the end of the day if they do.

I also suggested a change to nine players with two scum if he can't scrounge up enough players because first game and certain players don't like to play in first games.

As a last resort, because I think it'd be better with more people. But yeah, keep this in mind.

I think between the two of us, we actually thought of pretty good balance methods, once the OP reads them.

I wasn't being defeatist, I was being perfectionist. As a darkhorse mod, I don't want to run a crap game.

I threw in an extra town role, which could shift the balance a bit.
Keep in mind that the Samurai also protects from terrify, but not inspect.

[1]I think it's already offset by the reveal-on-kill, although I could increase the amount of people who 'hear' it - or even return it to everyone.
[2]I don't really want to have every town role be immune to terrifying. It kind of ruins the point of the block. But I agree it could use some extra effectiveness.
[3]Thought about it, but it'd ruin the point. Overall I don't think it's that much of a problem, unless there happens to be a tie breaker, but if need be I could make it that the Oni's vote isn't counted, so that it's harder to hit Lylo.

I think that now it seems pretty balanced, the mendicant monk will make life hard for whatever town player plays it but that's all fun and games as far as I'm concerned.  I think the current reveal-on-kill is a good way of doing it, btw.

The new town role definitely helps a lot with balancing it, since it helps negate silly "follow the cop" strategies.  The monk helps negate that too.

Suddenly tempted to do a 'Samurai Panic' game where every townie is samurai, and new roles open based on how many followers you have.

Depends how people enjoy the role in this game, I guess. Probably the most experimental one here.
