You spend a few minutes kicking through the detritus covering the ground before you find the knife. By the time you're ready to finish off the captain, he's gone. Either he was faking or he wasn't in as much pain as you thought. You'd look for the pistol, but you can hear the sound of a vehicle very nearby.

You make yourself scarce and end up near the fortified wall that forms the perimeter around the Steiner compound. The Zabi attack was surgical and lightning-fast, so it's largely intact aside from a few laser burns. The only way out would be through the north gate, or the garrison's tank garage. The garrison lives inside the wall and they have barracks housed in each side. The garrison is likely flooded with Zabi troops, but if the gate is locked down then it could be just as dangerous.

You go to the garrison. The drop-down door has been cut away. The edges of the sloppy hole are cool to the touch. You step inside. The dorm is quite neat for having been raided not half an hour ago. The men were shot as they slept. Not all of the beds are occupied so there's a chance some of them are still alive. The off-duty troopers' gear is still on hooks and in footlockers. You help yourself to a rifle, some grenades and a green-type ceramic vest. You also replace your communicator and scan the channels. No Steiner chatter, but you do pick up the Zabi squad band. It sounds like they're just wrapping things up here.

There are two doors. One leads to the armory, the other to the connecting corridor which can gain you access to the garage, as well as the top of the wall. The door to the armory is ajar.

You walk into the hallway leading to the armory. Through the doorway there are four Zabi soldiers in ceramics, the signature full helms of their military off, and they're getting drunk from glass bottles from a military crate. Hah! Can't believe we found their stash! Sneaky Steiners! They laugh and one of the men moves to the other side of the room. You hear a thump and the sound of someone whimpering. C'mon Steiner! Let's see some of that famous diplomacy! You hear blows landing and the cries of the victim. You focus on the three soldiers you can still see. They're quite clearly drunk, and at least one of the bottles is empty. Only one is holding a rifle and he seems the least inebriated.

You run towards the door with your rifle shouldered. The sober guard's head jerks as it's struck with multiple beams. One of the drinking guards drops his bottle. You sweep your barrel right and put a smoking hole in his throat. He falls with a crunch on the glass covered floor. The second drunkard might've had you if his friend hadn't kicked him while he was busy flailing on the ground. His pistol shot goes wide and you put a beam through his head. You turn towards the last guard. His pistol comes up and he fires rapidly. The beams impact around you and one hits your ceramic low. You duck back inside the doorway. You touch the spot where the beam struck you. The white spot is about an inch in diameter. It feels smooth, and it's slightly warm to the touch. You check the readout on your rifle. Enough charge for about 8 shots. H-hey you out there! I've got a gun pointed at this man's head! He's a Steiner, and you shot my friends so you must be too! You come on out if you really want him to live!
