-The Kingdom of Helgard:
born from the chaos of the third crusade. the kingdom of helgard is the only undead formed civilization in the whole planet.
its history tied to that of the first necromancers and their eventual demise at the hands of the Human-Sadharian alliance during the middle ages.
Helgard was initially settled by Neandar people who founded moved from the barbarian tribes that invaded the Albienan archipelago during the ancient era. the Neandars lived there during several generations until they discovered Skadia, and moved again in favor of a larger territory.
Helgard was left again to its own business until it was discovered and settled by Baltican raiders. who made it a small outpost for future incursions into the rest of western hesperos.
with the formation of the kingdom of Baltica, Helgard became a point of interest for potential trade routes with the continent. althought higly volcanic and with a cold weather the island served well for the plantation of certain agricultural products like cabbagges and other frost resistant crops. the long highlands served also for the breeding of large amounts of cattle, and being located in the middle of the ocean was enough for a good fishing industry.
life in Helgard was quite harsh, but paid overtime, until the coming of the undead legions.
Helgard had been outside of the virulent drama of the mainland, by the time the undead hordes have been erradicated from western Hesperos, the Death Keepers had moved to Helgard to make a counterattack, abducting the whole island's population for their unholy experiments. the king of Baltica couldnt do more, as the undead invasion and the crusade as a whole had leaved the country weakened.
it took several years for the kingdoms to regain enough force for getting into the root of the dead.
as it was said on the timeline, the alliance won against the forces of the Death Keepers, slaying up to its most powerfull leader. the island was cleansed using fire and the cure made by the Plague Doctors. and Helgard was again a living island. except for its citizens.
as it was decreed, Helgard was to become the home of the undead, eternally bound to live in that piece of rock in the middle of the ocean until they had withered so much that their souls were released at last. despite the grim reminder, the citizens took their lives into the service of the nation.
as time passed they got to accept undeath as both a blessing and as a burden, they were inmune to disease, to cold or other physical harm outside incineration. but they couldnt reach outside of their island due to their possibly infectious nature.
the thirst for adventure enticed many of the people in Helgard, and they started to work into a way to join the living, in a matter of centuries many of these became experts inthe understanding of both necromancy, alchemy and chemistry. deciphering the nature of the plague itself, how to create it, how to contain it, control it, and most important, how to destroy it.
the lust for escaping the cold island gave rise to incredible advancements in the creation of medicines and prothesis, as many of the citizens had fallen into a rotting process so heavy, that many parts of their bodies had to be replaced with prosthetic enhancements fuelede mostly by death magics.
by the 1700s Helgard became the holy mecca for negromantic enthusiasts, who, being shunned by their respective societies had moved to the land of the dead to study its fundamentals, many joining the ranks of the undead citizens themselves.
Helgard became a multirracial country, it didnt matter which race you were, all were brothers in the other side. the cultural interchange further enhanced the relations of the nation with the rest of the world.
in the end, the popularity of the country raised the interest of the other powers, for most of history the island had been declared a biohazardous zone due to possible infection. but the undead had researched so much in many fields potentially usefull for humanoidity that accords were declared.
by the end of the 1800s the dangerous classification was lifted, but the Helgardians were trusted to take care of the issue in case of any unwanted infection outside of their borders. any individual that wanted to receive the gift of undeath was to be sent to the country and educated in the proper procedures in order to evade a pandemia. Queen Joan was to take responsibility of any international issue as she was the eternal ruler of the nation, both by will and by law.
in the modern era Helgard is leading country in the production of many life support products, from medicines, to vaccines, medical equipment, prosthetics, etcetera, their capability to explore into the bodies of the dead without interfering with the living has allowed them to further supplement the fields of medicine and some of the best doctors in the world come from it, being of course, undead too.
it is also a leading force in the production of chemical compounds as the undeath allows them to work with potentially dangerous stuff like nuclear elements and acids, althought the usual procedures are to be taken in order to keep the island safe from harm.
the nation also produces the most dangerous of poisons, but those are kept only for the Queen, and its not permitted to trade them in the market, only used by the Helgardian military under royal orders.
