fanciful pets
« on: April 06, 2014, 01:00:41 am »

Hello, Talik here.

I finished making my entity and I decided that I wanted them to have war basilisks. So I made basilisks, gave them trainable, and fanciful, and I dont really know how to make them actually embarkable with. Anybody know how?

Do basilisks have a biome?

Are they considered a [GOOD] or [EVIL] creature, or neither?
If they are good or evil, your entity will need [USE_GOOD_ANIMALS] or [USE_EVIL_ANIMALS]

Are they considered a [PET] or a [PET_EXOTIC]?

They have [BIOME:SUBTTERANEAN_CHASM] (by memory in the actual document it IS spelled correctly) but I dont think I added [PET_EXOTIC]. Will do that now.

[UNDERGROUND_DEPTH:1-5:1-5]
should be
[UNDERGROUND_DEPTH:1:3]
to get them appearing in the caverns only. Civs that use underground animals only take them from level 1.

ok yeah I dont know but basilisks wont show up at all for some reason. Also I have an unrelated problem where in adventurer mode my adventurer (Bazlin'kizaur adventurer) will attack without asking me so I almost always end up slaughtering human villages because I accidently walked into one of them.

That's strange. Maybe you could try setting it to just [PET], though that may mean that dwarves could get the basilisk too.

The reason that your auto-attacking humans is because either your civ is at war with them or are otherwise hostile for whatever reason.

my civ is definitely not at war with them, they only ever declare war on elves (alot) and goblins (sometimes). And they are not hostile as the person in mention was actually my follower before I accidently murdered him.

Also, the basilisks dont show up AT ALL. It s not just that I cant embark with them, they dont even exist. Not even in object testing arena.

Strange.

Do they have their own creature file? If so, make sure that the file has the correct layout and naming scheme.

I.E: If the file itself is named creature_whatever.txt, then the beginning lines are

Code: [Select]
creature_whatever

[OBJECT:CREATURE]

The raws can be quite picky with the way files are named.

ok it would appear I just didnt look hard enough. I CAN spawn them in arena mode.
1) they cannot wrestle. At all.
2) They cannot attack. At all.
3) im not quite sure why they can stand but they can.

And, of course, I still cant use them in fortress mode. I presume... Actually im gonna go check that again.

also, another problem I just ran into.
(First, you need to know im using phoebus)
I am trying to get my creatures to use certain pictures. In this case, I want my Kizaurun to look like cave fish men. They have the same creature tile but still dont look the same. they get a letter while the fish get their phoebus avatar.

Graphics have their own folder, seperate from the raws, but the files within are a bit similar. These graphics are independent of creature tiles.

Try to find fish-men in there and just create a copy of it, and changing it to select your creature instead.

As for the creature, could you post their raws and their body? It may be easier to find anything wrong with them that way.
