Who would you say is the most memorable character of 34.11?
« on: April 04, 2014, 05:55:30 pm »

The question is simple enough, brought to mind by DarkDXZ:

[...]
Also curious to see what the DF2014 Cacame will be. Or any other noteworthy ingame character.

We'll be coming up on DF2014 soon, by all appearances. Previous versions had Sankis, Tholtig Cryptbrain, Urist, Cacame, and others - But, who, in your opinion, is the most memorable character of DF2012, aka 34.11?

I'd like to add that succession game/community fortress characters also count, if anybody wants to list off whichever of those stands out most in their memory.

Was Kobold Quest the current version? Or do adventurers not count? I forget the kobold's name, but I thought that was a good story!

Live long if you can, and prosper by any means necessary.  Any means, Urist.  So pull that lever, or by Armok, I'll lock you outside come next siege.
He who plays with dwarves must take care that he does not become a dwarf.  And when you stare into DwarfFort, Dwarffort stares back into you.

It was this version, yeah nope, different version entirely, and adventurers definitely count. You may be thinking of A Kobold Story.

DF2014 is likely to have a famous character as we'll be able to see more of what's happening and happened with the upcoming release.

It was Deebus, IIRC. Not sure on the last name, tho.
DF2014 is gonna be awesome since you'll not only be able to find that character but it may also continue its badassery while you're still playing. (to some degree anyway, right?)

Also looking forward to whatever the Boatmurdered: DF2014 Edition might be. (as a site, much I guess every site would need a story to go with it, so...)

Not so much the most memorable, but certainly as a part of the supporting staff would have to be "The countless vampires who managed to kill over 10,000 people, yet never got into politics". It seems like they're everywhere. Sort of a part of the background crew that makes the worlds of dwarf fortress the terrifying places to live that they are today. "Don't trust anyone!"
I wonder how these poor lost souls will fare with the new world gen, battle, reclaim, banditry and notable people mechanics in DF2014.

Here's an example (from .34.10 I think, but still a compatible world gen):

Wait, isn't there that elephant demon that got famous in worldgen? I'm pretty sure that was 0.34.xx

Deebus for sure. The only other one that really comes to mind is possibly Colonel Fischer.

The problem is that DF community has exploded. I mean, during Boatmurdered days there were only few succession games. Right now there is hundreds of them, at same time. Newer versions have some legends, like Battlefailed and all its sequels, and Sparkgear, but they're only one of many awesome succession games. It is basically impossibly to keep track of all potential awesome figures of current version, since there is so many of them.

Btw, speaking of the next release, I bet there will be much more adventurer legends coming. Right now only truly memorable adventurers are Deebus, guys in The Museum -succession game and Obok Meatgod.

Eh, there's generally only a few succession games going on here at once (no comment about the quality - we're a mixed bag when it comes to overseership) one going on at SomethingAwful, and maybe one going on at TVtropes occasionally.
