"I don't remember which side I was on. All I know is that I took a very hard hit to the head at some point during the battle, and woke up after it ended, I'd say I'm quite lucky to be alive right about now."

The man glares at you in silence for a few seconds afterwards, but abruptly turns to the archers and signals for them to stand down before ordering the crossbowmen to come over to where he's standing. Turning his attention back to you, he gives you a look over once more before replying,

"What you said seems to be the truth, for the most part at least, if it was up to me I'd kill you here and now, but Terian calls the shots and he'll be deciding what to do with you I'd say. Now if you'd be so kind as to let these nice men to escort you up to the boss we'll find out how you'll be spending the next hour of your life, or less depending on whether he wants you to keep your head."

With a slight chuckle he signals to the crossbowmen and they fall in behind, and to the side of you with their weapons leveled at your chest just waiting for you to act out or disobey them. With no real choice about it you go along with the crossbowmen, and begin to make your way up the tower towards the top floor, you're quite surprised to find the second floor filled with mats and beds along with (from what you could count) twenty more people lounging around in the room. The differences between the second and third floor however surprise you, the beds and mats are replaced with bookshelves, bags, and crates that are more often then not filled with books or scrolls of some sort while the rest contain writing supplies and the like. You're led through the maze of crates, and bookshelves to a small circular area at the center where you find an aging man stooped over a desk covered in maps, scrolls, and manuscripts in dozens of scripts and languages.

Without even looking at those who approached the man starts up,

"So you're the supposed intruder? Welcome to the remains of Fort Traxis, my name is Terian, the leader of this group of people who have lost their homes, and their protector should the need arise that they truly need one. I've already heard what you said to Markus at the entrance, and for now I'll choose to believe it even though I know you're lying, I have a proposition for you nameless soldier and I do hope it intrigues you for as you can tell I'm old and don't have the time to make many an alternative for you. I will allow you a place here in the ruins of Fort Traxis, a place to rest in safety from the troubles outside, and even meals should you want them for those times when you wish to stay here, in return I want you to help me.

You'll act as my eyes, ears, and from time to time my mouth out in the world for the times are changing, I can feel it in my bones, and those of us ravaged by this war won't find a home in these lands much longer unless we forge our own. The world as we know it is being shattered as the Black Empire stabs the swords of its legions into the very hearts of the Seven Isles, and those who are left behind to the chaos to come I wish to find a place for here. There will be times where I ask you to observe, times where I ask you to speak, and times where I ask you to kill but in return I will help you in whatever it is you seek to do, I can feel it in your very presence that there is a great destiny and desire within you. So what do you say Nameless Soldier, will you aid me or will you leave this Fort and strike it out on your own into the unknown for those are the only two options open to you."

Maybe we should go by the name of Nameless Soldier amongst the mortals.

It has a nice ring to it.

But otherwise, we shall offer our aid for the time being, if only to get our bearings on any newfound powers and a posse of followers.

Maybe we should go back to the battlefield and attempt to reanimate a corpse with magic we don't know we have, maybe just a hunch.

Actually, we should try any sort of magic anyone can think of.

And also see if we have some sort of regeneration.

The entity did hint at putting us amongst the ranks of Immortals.

+1. Except don't go around spreading any name by yourself, let it spread on it's own. Ask about all those books and scrolls in this floor, what are they about and what for. Ask are we in these Seven Isles, and what this Black Empire is all about and where they came from.

Then you get cities like Paris where you should basically just kill yourself already.

You won’t have to think anymore: it’ll be just like having fun!

"I'll accept this deal of yours for now, not like I have anywhere else to go really, just call me what you wish. Now, if you wouldn't mind, I'd like to ask you about all these books and scrolls, what exactly is their purpose especially in a place such as this?"

You ask the old man who continues to read and examine the materials on the desk rather then turn to face you, to your surprise he laughs at your question.

"These are my life's work, all of these I have obtained through my rather long time in this world for they hold the key to power for one such as me, these books and scrolls are the tools of a mage, and that mage is me. For now all you need know is that all of this contains the knowledge which those like me use for power, some are ancient tomes containing spells and rituals while others are simply detailed histories, but they all contribute in the end. Perhaps in time you will come to learn more of this, perhaps ...

Any who be gone with you, today you have no work, but come tomorrow there will be much for you to do."

With that the supposed mage Terian waves you, and the guards out of the room, you find the guards have lowered their weapons for now but they all still seem suspicious of you. Shrugging you follow the guards to the first floor, before turning and walking out into the open courtyard beyond as the crossbowmen go to tell the man you assume to be Markus what happened in the meeting. Grinning to yourself you head out past the walls to the battlefield proper to see if perhaps that strange being gave you some power that you don't know of.

As you stare out over the corpses you get the idea to try and do ... something, you're not quite sure what it is you're hoping to achieve, but you focus and try to summon some power you don't know you have. Of course no matter how hard you will some of the corpses to return to life none of them move, even in the slightest. Moving from that you wonder if perhaps you have some form of regeneration now, and leaning down you pull the dagger from your boot before dragging it across your thumb drawing a thin line of bright crimson blood. To your surprise as you watch the cut slowly begins to heal, and within a minute or two the cut is completely healed though you doubt you want to try and test if it stretches to regenerating limbs ...

Cut a small sliver off the tip of our finger for testing purposes, then punch ourself somewhere to see how well bruises heal.

To further test the extent of your regeneration you take your dagger, and gritting your teeth through the pain, cut a small chunk off the tip while the cut itself heals over in the end it does not grow out to replace the part of the finger you lost. Putting your dagger back in its sheath you turn back towards the fort and ponder what to do for the rest of the day now that you've tested the extent of your regeneration.

Can't say this is a bad idea. We should totally ask about necromancy stronger healing spells, since our regeneration is only somewhat useful.

And we should ask how to shoot lightning.

That too. Shooting lightning would be really cool, but I don't know how effective putting an arrow through lightning would be, since lightning isn't alive.  ;D
