Undying - A Narrative Suggestion Game
« on: April 04, 2014, 05:38:20 pm »

A furious battle rages all around you, allies and enemies alike fight, and die all around you as you hack into those foes that stand before you with your blade gleaming red in the light of the sun. As you cut the arm off one of the soldiers another two come charging towards you wielding sword, and shield in a rather pathetic manner as if it was the first time they had ever picked up such in their lives, but how could that be true in a world of war? No, no it wasn't true you think; lunging forward you take the one on the right in the throat, and he collapses backwards while the other, seeing some opening, swoops in slashing with all the might he can muster. You block the first blow, and side step his overhead slash sending him off-balance, without a second thought you bring your sword down with all your might slaying yet another, a voice in your head says its the way of this world but deep down you feel that there's something wrong with a life where its kill or be killed.

The vision of an axe barely missing your face snaps you from your stupor, and you launch yourself back into the battle against this newcomer, a man clad in black armor and wielding a greataxe so big it could easily match an average man's height. Kill that one, kill him, and end this; the voice says in your head once more, choosing not to question you charge straight in wielding your sword with both hands, and with a sense of overwhelming determination driving you on. You could feel a need to please the voice that spoke in your head, a desire to follow its orders no matter the cost, and it drove you through the first moments of the battle as you dodged one, two, and then a third attack from the monster of a man before you. You stab for the visor of the armored giant, but the man is faster than you could even suspect, and as he pulls away from the tip of your blade his axe comes from the side, twisting around you manage to just barely get your sword in its path.

At first a sense of joy fills you as the opening you need to kill the man appears before you, but suddenly you feel an intense pain coming from your chest, looking down you see the shattered fragments of your sword littering the ground ... and his greataxe sticking from your chest. Your vision begins to blur as the voice speaks again, 'So even with your skill it was not enough, oh well this is far from the end at least., and with that you catch sight of the giant's axe sweeping towards your head, but you can't muster the strength to care before your world fades to black.

Strangely enough even as you know you should be dead you can feel that you're still alive, or at least some form of it, and the darkness around you is somehow comforting to you. The voice speaks again, this time louder then before so as it no longer comes to you as a whisper,

'Tell me your name brave warrior,
Tell me your desire in this war torn world,
And tell me that which you would throw away to achieve that desire.

Tell me this, and perhaps, just perhaps you might be able to achieve that which you want. Or you may die, only time will tell.'

-------------

This is going to be an entirely story-driven suggestion game as I find I can run them far better then anything else, and I'd like to start getting some practice in to polish up (well hopefully improve) my writing skills. I will definitely be updating this a minimum of once a week, and will do anything up to an update a day given I have the votes/suggestions and the time for such extreme amounts of updating. This will also be a serious game, so please no extremely ridiculous suggestions.

Everyone picks godhood... that's pretty vague anyway.

Name: Saitama
Goal: the ability to defeat all; man, beast, or god; with but a single blow
Sacrifice: who I am now

"I'm Stern Feld, and my desire is to become a God, I would give everything I have to achieve it."

You say into the darkness, and for a moment you start to think that you really have passed on as the voice doesn't reply for what feels like hours on end in this dull, lifeless void. What you get as an answer is quite surprising as the voice chuckles, a sound that reminds you of the sound of a slow moving creek, the wind moving through the leaves in a tree, and the chirping of birds all at once. Soon the laughter stops, and it speaks up,

'Yes, yes I did the right thing in choosing you, with a desire like that you will surely cause ripples of change in this world, but who knows what the result will be of them. You interest me Stern, and because of that I'll give you a second chance, don't disappoint my expectations since after all you're bound to make the most exciting chaos truly. Until next time, struggle Stern, struggle for in a world of 'gods' and mortals what is one more amongst the ranks of immortals?'

With that a sudden flash of light blinds you, and the events of the battle begin to run through your head again alongside the sensations you felt during it, especially the pain. As you feel the pain of having your chest smashed open once more you gasp, and lurch upwards only to be stopped by something heavy pressing down on you from above, unlike before the darkness that surrounds you now is almost suffocating and the smell that assails you is so powerful you can barely keep from gagging. Struggling under the weight of whatever is on you it takes a good five minutes to drag yourself out from underneath the obstruction, where you quickly wish you hadn't come to realize what you were buried under for where you previously were is a mound of slowly rotting corpses.

All around you the signs of the battlefield still remain, unburied dead cover the ground alongside smashed carts, ruined weapons, and large areas of scorched ground covered in ash and dust. You try to remember who exactly each side fought for, but for some reason the memories simply wouldn't come to you, in fact everything from before the battle was just .... gone, it was like someone had taken your memories away though seeing as how you came back from the dead it certainly seems like a lesser problem. Shaking your head you look around the area trying to find something that might be of use, your surroundings consist of the battlefield, a forest a little way to the east, and not far from you a somewhat damaged fort whose gates hang open, partially smashed during the siege.

Looking at the dead soldiers, some wearing red coats, and others bearing some form of black marking from medals to coats, you wonder how to proceed after all whatever army you had been apart of was either long gone or destroyed by now.

Search for a more fitting weapon among the dead and broken bodies. Preferably a large sword of some sort.

Well first things first you need a decent weapon, and with this being the site of a battlefield there's sure to be a sword in a good condition somewhere around here. Setting about searching the area it takes you only a few minutes to find what you're looking for, not far from the corpses you were buried under you find the corpse of someone you assume to be a captain with his hand still firmly clenched around the hilt of his longsword. It takes only a second to pry the sword free after which you strip the sheath off of him as well, and then belt it on at your waist to stow the sword away in, with that done you turn your attentions to the fort above you and begin to pick your way through the carnage left behind.

As you approach the gates you notice that the entire time since you woke up you haven't heard any sounds aside from your own breathing, with a battlefield like this surely carrion birds would've been all over the place. Strolling through the shattered gates you're met by a slightly smaller scale carnage then that outside, and the burnt shells of several buildings with the only standing structure remaining in the entire fort being the destroyed tower at the very center of the courtyard. Off put by the atmosphere you ease your sword from the sheath slightly, and head for the swaying wooden door leading into the tower proper, as you push the door out of your way and step inside you're met with a rather strange surprise.

All across the room, set up behind tables and barrels, you see roughly a dozen people with drawn bows pointed at you, and even a few on the stairway with loaded crossbows bearing down on you. As one of them steps forward you examine the supposedly hostile people before you, all of them seem to be wearing very worn clothing and their faces bear the signs of exhaustion clearly on their face, you turn your attention towards the one who stepped forward as he speaks up.

"Stay right there, or we'll fill you with enough quarrels and arrows to down a bear! Whose side are you on? Go ahead and explain yourself, but if you're with the Empire's legions you won't be leaving here alive just don't think you'll be able to get a lie by me, or you might find your day going really badly."
