Tali knelt behind whatever cover she might have found, slipping up a pair of wrap around blue-crystal goggles over her pretty eyes. They didn't exactly have any sort of magical or mundane sight amplification features, though she might have claimed so if someone asked-in truth the amount of dust and silt kicked up by her rifle required a little eye protection.

As she took aim at the 'leader' Ghoul-probably just the one who had the best looking weapon-she thought back to her training. Her family had been...cautiously worried about her choice of weapon. She never doubted it, though. Even if the weapon was occasionally finicky, she was sure it was the right one-though it might be years, decades before they mass produced ammunition that could hurt dragons. As it was...what methods she knew were a bit roughshod. She once had the idea of using dragon-bone shards as buckshot, even...

But, those thoughts led to others. A rifle was easier to learn than a bow or a sword, certainly. The user didn't even have to be particularly strong or even smart-and even one shot did terrible damage. She sometimes wondered if the day might come when armies of Dwarves might be able to hunt Dragons to extinction with such weapons, when they were more easily mass producible...putting her family out of business, she supposed.

But, would that be so bad? She had read the list of honored ancestors-been forced to memorize it, over and over, all the names and honored deeds and births and deaths and methods of deaths. Most of them were burned or chomped by Dragons, of course. It was a hard thing to live up to, certainly...she wondered if she would ever have little lads or lassies, and what they would read about her. "Here Lies Ancestor Tali, her weapon was a bane to noone but herself, she was verily missed", most likely!

Her family. traced their own lineage (to the point it mattered) all the way back to the bloodline of one the Anryn's families royal 'rock-rangers', a title that had fallen out of favor in the last few hundred years-they had been a husband and a wife who both perished in a landslide caused by a mischievous Dragon, their home crushed whilst they were busy saving others... The child within lived, however, by fate-recovered from the very rock that had smothered her parents...where then, if the old tales were true, they were given a new family name by the grateful ancestors.

The Greystones. The child had naturally sworn eternal vengeance on all of Dragon-kind when she was old enough to know what vengeance was, and this oath had been followed by all her ancestors, up to and including this one.

Tali realized her thoughts were wandering a bit and knocked herself lightly on the noggin a few times.

"I'll go forrr civilian while you mince dead meat", - grumbled Kerr'tan.
Like a very determined, scaly fortress, he went into the fray.

Action: move to the merchant, going around combatants.

Janiries runs up to the nearest ghoul and, using Reason, quick-draws and attempts to shoot the ghoul's head off (aimed attack).
Sharpshooter: 6 < 9
The nearest ghoul's head explodes into a shower of skull fragments and rotten flesh. As it falls to the ground, some of the remaining six ghouls break off from the group and turn their attention towards you.

Action: Set up somewhere covered on the dock and start potshotting Ghoulies with my blackpowder rifle. Aim for the one with the big scythe-staff first.
Sharpshooter: 8 < 9
Your round impacts shallowly into the Headtaker's arm. You don't think that really did any damage, but the menacing ghoul turns on you anyway, its beady eyes staring blankly through you.

If the goblins drop the merchant when they turn to attack Kyle, just throw the javelin at the nearest one to him.
Rogue (+1) 4 < 12
{ROLL}
The Headtaker takes a javelin to the chest, sending it sprawling to the ground. Despite being fully penetrated through the heart, it still writhes and groans, trying to prop itself back up on its weapon.

(Cast Distracting Visions on one of the ghouls)
Arcane Theory - Combat (-2): 6 = 6
You successfully cast the spell, but the ghoul is not fazed by it. If you had to guess, these ghouls are under specific orders to ignore anything that isn't a threat.

Move to the merchant, going around combatants.
You don't seem to have any problem getting to the merchant. In fact, the ghouls seem to ignore you completely as you bend down to check on the unconscious civilian. He's out cold, but still breathing, and bound at the wrists. Other than some scuffs, scrapes, and a mild head wound, he seems to be in decent condition. You have another action, if you wish to use it.

Headtaker's action
The ghoul stands up, shambling towards the orc that had just knocked it down. It is now within close range of Garashn, but it is still not close enough to do any real harm. It also maneuvers around Kerr'tan, and is now in melee range of him.

Charge nearest zombie, trying to use follow through if possible.
Barbarian: 5 < 9
Barbarian: 11 > 9
You charge into the writhing mass of dead flesh, slicing apart one of the ghouls. In your excitement, however, you swing too high with your second attack, and your sword sails over the head of your intended target. Five ghouls remain.

Whip the nearest ghoul in the sword arm.
Rogue: 6 < 7
You whip the nearest ghoul's arm, which promptly falls off at the elbow. However, this does nothing to deter said ghoul, who keeps coming at you with mindless determination.

Ghouls' actions
{ROLL}
Kyle - Rogue: 5 < 7
A ghoul swings at Kyle, but he deftly avoids its flailing arm.

{ROLL}
{ROLL}
Two of the ghouls swing rusty swords at T'skrat, but their weapons prove ineffectual against his armor.

The remaining two ghouls move toward Janiries. They are now within melee range.

You hoist the merchant over your shoulder and carry him away from the fighting. Nobody seems to do anything to stop you.

"Ha hah! You stinking nasties don't stand the slightest chance!"

Holster Reason. Charge the closest ghoul, quick-draw the cutlass, and strike! Prepare to parry afterwards.

What devilry is this? growls Garashn as the ghoul stands back up with a javelin in its heart.

Toss my dagger to my right hand, step forward into melee range, and attempt to separate the ghoul's head from its shoulders (aimed melee attack, using Target) after seeing the ghoul who lost its head stay dead.

Prepare to dodge using Rogue skill.

Holster Reason. Charge the closest ghoul, quick-draw the cutlass, and strike! Prepare to parry afterwards.
Swashbuckler: 8 < 10
Your cutlass slices through rotten flesh, and another ghoul is bisected at the waist. Four remain.

Action: Reload! ALOT
You start reloading. You will be able to fire again in 3 turns.

aimed melee attack, using Target
You step into melee range, and swing at the Headtaker.
Rogue: 4 < 11
Your knife slices across its neck, exposing muscle and bone, but the Headtaker keeps shambling toward you with ragged determination.

I still need Jane's and Kerr'tan's turns for this round, and then I can post the rest.

Use my medical knowledge [7-1] to help civilian; failing that, either use blessing if his wounds are not serious or Bhara's sleep otherwise [9+1-1].

"CHILL WIND!"
Arcane Theory - Elemental (-2): 11 > 7
SPELL FAIL SAVE: 1 < 6
You speak the words and make the motions, but the spell does not cast. Maybe you just misspoke the incantation.

Use my medical knowledge [7-1] to help civilian; failing that, either use blessing if his wounds are not serious or Bhara's sleep otherwise [9+1-1].
Medicine: 7 > 6
Common Prayer (-1): 7 > 4
You're finding it hard to concentrate with the battle going on behind you. Your mind draws a blank and your prayers fail.

Headtaker's action
{ROLL}
Garashn - Rogue: 4 < 9
Garashn masterfully dodges the Headtaker's swing. It flies by with surprising force. None of the other ghouls seem to have this kind of strength.

Battle cry on headtaker.
{ROLL}
The Headtaker seems to be unaffected by your roar of bloodlust.

Entangle a ghoul's leg.
Rogue(-1): 4 < 6
{ROLL}
You wrap your whip around the ghoul's leg and give a good hard tug. The ghoul falls flat on its back and attempts to wriggle free of its binding.

Ghouls
{ROLL}
{ROLL}
A rusty blade bites into T'skrat's back, just barely scathing him. The other ghoul doesn't even come close to hitting him.
((One of them got a crit, and there's no dodging those.))

{ROLL}
Another ghoul attacks Janiries, and swings wide.

{ROLL}
The entangled ghoul attempts to untangle itself, and struggles uselessly against its binds.
