An Ukrainian-Russian war won't happen. Worst that happens is an Ukrainian civil war with Russian peacekeepers.

Really, Russia's PR department isn't dumb.

This seems like wishful thinking to me. I mean, I don't doubt Russia will say it's not a Ukraine-Russia war, but in reality it looks like it's going to very much be a Ukraine-Russia war.

I am not convinced that we'll definitely have a larger war. I think it is extremely likely. extremely here is at most 30% probability but as that will lead to tens if not hundreds thousands of death it is too high for my liking

I don't believe that Civil war in Ukraine is possible. Nation is more united than ever. But radical anti-Ukrainian elements as well as remains of the old system aren't ready to give up. Especially with all that extensive support from Russia.

As for - will the situation go from low intensity undeclared Ukrainian-Russian war to full scale war. Only one person will decide - Putin. Can't know his plans

Is the state-owned media a part of the PR department?

Russia wouldn't have much to gain from a war though. I mean they're not being invading for the sake of it after all. Crimea and the federalism they're pushing is simply taking advantage of situation gone wrong. A war would mean Russians coming home in body bags, totally losing the politicians that could be taken under Russian influence (Tymoshenko) and a serious increase in sanctions. He would basically concede West Ukraine to the West permanently where he could now hope to influence all of it. And there is no "Crimea really belongs to us historically" thing to help, let alone something akin to the autonomy that Crimea had.

He might of course. I didn't predict an annexation of Crimea. But I think it's bluffing.

Actually, I can't even imagine a Russian-Ukrainian war. A lot of people here have relatives living in Ukraine, and war is no good for anyone.

Russia has as much of a claim over Crimea as they do over Donetsk and the Donbass region. I don't see any difference there. In fact, they have as much of a claim over Crimea as they do over the whole of Ukraine. And Finland. And Latvia, and pretty much half of Eastern Europe.

No more than the Poles, anyway. The whole "claim" thing is tripe that can be destroyed with the application of logic.

Guardian G.I.  Do you release that in case of full-out Ukrainian-Russian war life of citizens of Belarus will become worse? Russian economy will receive a huge hit (even without any sanctions...), Ukrainian economy will collapse. Don't you think that it will influence Belarus in a rather negative way?
Of course it will. Even if the Russian economy manages to weather the storm without any serious damage, there'll still be a lot of other problems, like refugees fleeing the combat zone.

CIA director visited Ukraine.

The funny thing is that Russian state media reported about his visit a few days before the American government confirmed it.

What's funny about that? seems to be how it should be.

It was generally disregarded as false Russian propaganda and CIA even denied it for a while (IIRC).

Why would anyone believe the CIA?
