You can buy quite a bit of ammo with 50 US.
No, the question is why would Jewish people in the Ukraine be asked by the pro-Russian government to pay in United States Dollars?

Well, $ are easy to get your hands on and I doubt the Ukrainian currency will keep its value if an invasion occurs.

You know they could just ask for 1800 rubles, right? There is no rules of physics stating fascists can only demand up to 50 currency units at once.

Or they could ask for Euros, considering they're in Europe. And the hryvna/grivna isn't going to plummet any faster than the ruble has. Heck, even shekels would make more sense.

You know not all Jews are Israeli/have Israeli family etc etc, right? Dollars are easier to get than shekels.

And my thoughts are being confirmed. Transnistrians gave Republic of Moldavia a ultimatum to pull out the policemen that are there to protect the Romanian population.

Maybe it is a time for a joint Moldavian-Ukrainian-Romanian operation to bring order here... That area creates to much problems for our countries

And also, I'm not sure it would actually be nice. What is the utlimatum by the way? Are they threatening to invade Moldova?

Should be noted that the US Navy has a destroyer in the area (USS Donald Cook, DDG-75) conducting wargames with the Romanian navy (this is the one that was buzzed by a Su-24 last week).

And NATO has stepped up air patrols over the Baltic states and fleet presence in the eastern Mediterranean. So yeah, they're showing some balls.

The interesting bit would be if Moldova gave permission to station NATO tripwire forces in their territory. Although to be truly effective, they'd have to be *in* Transdniestr, which is probably strictly against whatever treaty ended the '92 conflict.

The Baltics are a bit more clear-cut situation. All three are NATO members. Any attempt at a Russian land-grab there would end very badly. And there have been some rumblings about the ethnic Russian population in Narva... :-\

That is indeed because NATO is, primarily, a defensive treaty. Woe to Russia should Putin mess with that. But I think he knows enough not to. He likes pretending that he will of course, but bluffing in and of itself does not a big man make.

One of those reasons are, of course, the economy. Russia has enough trouble with that already: Today's front-page New York Times article is on that. if the NYT is to western for you.

Well, saying that you don't want to allow the Russians to watch heavily implies that you're going to do something that is not entirely approved off.

I was just about to post news link about some sort of deal being struck, but Ukrainian Ranger's info is more informative than what I'd post.

TBH Ukrainian Ranger, it also mentions US and EU will provide support, possibly monitors in that context, so you probably won't be stuck with just Russian ones.

This site is showing a picture of a poster by the "Donetsk independent republic", asking all Jews to register with the new government or loose their properties. Translation here.

So, do you think this is real? It could be very ugly.
Apparently, US Secretary of State John Kerry was also complaining about ""grotesque" sending of notices to Jews in eastern Ukraine, demanding that they register themselves as Jewish", so there might be some truth in that...then again, it wouldn't be the first time a nations' representative would cite false information as truth or just outright lie about it, heh.
