Why? It's not like they all will be thrown to the street. They'll find job in other units if their qualification is good enough. Same as with Berkut, most of them keep working in police

One may ask why punish the whole brigade for actions of a platoon but there no point in having a brigade of paratroopers that has a such humiliating page in its historybook.

Edit: Oh, misread the post.  No, not the whole brigade gave up their weapon, but actions of that platoon was enough for punishment

Actions like that tend to annihilate morale of troops.

The Ukrainian High Command are clearly agents of Putin. They can't possibly be that incompetent.

My thoughts exactly. Way to endear yourself to your teetering-on-the-brink-of-mass-defection troops, Ukrainian government!

(edit: that probably needs a rephrase. I mean "those of your troops that are teetering on the brink of defection", not that the entire Ukrainian military is about to defect)

You think that the massage -"giving up your arms to the enemy is wrong" wasn't necessary?

To punish a whole brigade of paratroopers due to the actions of a platoon isn't just getting the message across, it goes beyond that needlessly and may be more damaging in the long run.

I don't see how punising an entire brigade for something only one platoon did is right.

It's almost like punishing relatives of a criminal just for being relatives.
Soviet Union did that, and it was wrong.

CNN is reporting that one town in the eastern part near the border is giving the pro-russian troops a heros welcome :/

Polarized all right and perhaps the split is deeper than some people think. Honestly, I don't really know what to make of it, sure some towns over in the east might want to go to Russia and others might not.

This site is showing a picture of a poster by the "Donetsk independent republic", asking all Jews to register with the new government or loose their properties. Translation here.

So, do you think this is real? It could be very ugly.

Why would they be asking for 50 US dollars?

No, the question is why would Jewish people in the Ukraine be asked by the pro-Russian government to pay in United States Dollars?

Swedish news, citing Reuters, report that Ukraine has arrested ten Russian citizens with intelligence service backgrounds. The article only mentions it, though, so a bit of salt I suppose is needed.
