Where are you coming from? What's the end goal? Feel free to PM me it if you don't want to put it here for any reason.

Was hoping for something faster then PM by PM, like through Steam, Skype, or IRC.

Anyhow...

Basically I have started a plot where the characters have stopped one of the major villains from stealing one of the McGuffins.

That is as far as they are aware, and as I know as a DM I can change any part of the story they are unaware of.

But the story is that the main villain is basically a pawn for a greater force in order to collect these to use a device that can essentially wreck total havoc on the world.

Yet the PCs can really either go on a quest to stop this villain or to collect the McGuffins but they might also try to destroy them or throw them into a volcano.

Too paranoid to give out that stuff, apologies.

In general advice, I prefer to plan the major plot points and then leave it open how to get between them - it adds a bit more freedom to the narrative. Though if they go the wrong way you need to be able to pick up a point and place it in front of them, but yeah.

For the example there, I might use a counter attack to further the plot - some attempt to regain the McGuffin. if you want to add a bit more spin to it you could add a secondary function to the McGuffin, such as as the key to a treasure trove. Then you could have the villains catch up. In fact, if you could arrange for the heroes to put down the mcguffin (for example by having the lock and door in different place, a day or so apart) you could have the villain reacquire it, relocking the hoard.

Thus the heroes have a reason to follow the villain and get more involved in the plot.

I may have completely missed the point here though.....

Hence why I said "Or IRC" you can go in some neutral place on IRC... or any chat website that doesn't require you give personal information.

Problem is I'm rather busy ATM with exams and stuff, so I can't.
At least not if I want to get into uni.

I've posted a recruitment thread for Fate Core to play in the forums, thought I'd drop it here, if anyone's interested.

http://www.bay12forums.com/smf/index.php?topic=139466.0

I'm gonna give it a couple of weeks to see if there's any interest.

Whelp due to my TERRIBLE time management skills (I left two days open for prep, that I didn't end up having two days for... instead of just finishing ASAP)

I have fallen into Emergency prep time territory.

Is anyone interested in helping me with campaign prep?

While I'd like to rely on your altruism... If need be I'll throw in a 10 dollar steam game of your choice when I have the funds (so... yeah I can't take advantage of the sale to do it at the moment.).

PM me if interested.

I have an urge to run some Call of Cthulhu.  I have a pretty cool idea for a campaign but the problem is that it's not exactly original.

And by not exactly original I mean it's so egregiously stolen that if you're aware of the source material you'll basically know the whole thing within the first five minutes of the campaign.

But it's a pretty obscure source and a pretty cool premise for a game of Call of Cthulhu.  Lots of horror both alien and human, so I'm tempted to do it anyway.  What do people think about openly unoriginal premises for things like this?  I steal shit all the time for my games but I usually conceal it in some way or another.  I've never just straight up ripped off somebody else's premise.

Don't worry too much about being original. You're a gamemaster, not a writer. Give the player original and/or fun (With emphasis on the latter) and it will be enough.

That's what I usually think too.  Like I said, I steal everything, I just normally modify it until it's no longer recognizable.

Don't care though, it's happening.

Well that and... You don't have to be original, you just have to be good.

Just give it your own twist.

As for how my game went... Oddly well, and all my prep was pointless.

Hey, when you try to call Cthulhu, do you get a busy signal?

Try to hang up before his voicemail picks you up, or you'll go insane.

Yes. Cthulhu does the calling, not the answering.
