[TSG] INSERT DISC: TLoZ:OoT
« on: April 01, 2014, 07:32:13 pm »

YOU MIGHT NEED TO KNOW THIS

It is the year 1999. A young dude named Nick is determined to beat every video game ever. Shit gets real even before he picks up the controller as he brawls with stuff. It's up to our hero, backed up by a snarky narrator, a creepy super dimensional merchant, and the inhabitants of the Bay12 to slack off and play Nintendo all day.

You can still walk around the apartment even while playing, but while someone's playing a game everyone must remain inside, and you need to drive to get to gamestap.

..You're not going to get anything off the internet. This takes place in 1999 I've decided. You're only going to get music from filesharing sites and downloading still takes forever, especially on a somehow modded PS. Plus the Bisoncops hate digital crime.

KOTOR doesn't exist so you'd need to do some timehopping to get it, and you'd need a PS2 or a future PC depending on which it's for.

The merchant can get stuff from the future.

We have two gamers gaming. How do we add a third?
You beat bosses IRL. Bosses are just tough guys who will show up whenever I feel like it. When you beat a boss, you get an item that allows you to bring in a Bay12er as a new party member. Didn't I already explain this?

Quote from: Game Ratings
Alright, since we've finally got round to the premise which is actually playing video games, here's how this is going to work. All the games are tagged as either [A(dvanced)], [S(imple)] or [I(mprovised)].

Simple games are ones that the GM has only rudimentary knowledge of. He hasn't played it all the way through, but he does have a bit of experience with it. OR: the game is very short or uncomplicated. Playing the game just once is enough to beat it. You cannot gain skills by playing these, but they will add to your Beat counter.

Advanced games are much different. The GM has played these over, and over and over and he knows them by heart (usually). You have to play the entire thing in order to win. It'll basically be a blow-by-blow of the actual game. Except with more murderization. You can do whatever you want so long as you complete the game's arbitrary goals. So in LoZ:OoT all you've got to do is kill Ganon. These games are the most valuable. Making progress can earn you skills IRL that will help you defeat the Bosses.

Improvized games are games the GM has never played before in his life, or he was too drunk at the time to remember. He might skim a wiki or two, but you can trust that a playthrough will largely be completely blind and full of guesses. Definitely a lot of room for bullshit in this type of game. There's a possibility of earning skills by beating these games, but who knows what they might be. Meta knowledge will not help you in this game. Potentially the hardest games based on that alone.

Rules: All characters who are not at work must be in the apartment in order to start a gaming session. Once a character starts a gaming session, he MUST beat the game in order to leave. Other characters may join, but no one can quit until the game is beaten. Only one A or I-class game can be played at any given time. You can play as many S-class games as you have players to play them.
Addendum: Games can regress to a lower rank on GM whim or popular player demand. So Advanced > Simple > Improvised.

This is the original post that the actual game evolved out of.

[6] You push the power button through the CPU and out the other end, along with most of the motherboard. The PC boots up.

Nick shrugs in his rolly chair. I don't know how to code. He squeaks his rolly chair left and right. Heh.

Hey computer, work. You kick the front of the CPU in, then slap the monitor so hard that it spins four times.

*bwhirrrrr*
[welcum 2 totalee verkiiing O,S.]

The computer keeps making loud clunking noises every time you click, and it takes ten minutes before the desktop shows up, but you successfully convinced it to not be broken. You open up Internet Explorer and find TPB. You've already got a torrent client installed so all you need to do is download what you want to play.
