Xan steps back in shock, 'But I thought you would always be the one to look out for me! To help me through all my times!'
'Yes darling, and I still do! But those up high commanded me to do so.' The doctor covers his head with his hands, hardly hiding the pain from what he had to do.
'I know how much you treasured your powers and oh, how I loved to see you use my gifts to their full extent, it truly does shake me to my core to take away such greatness.'
Xan whirls around, anger and pain showing through his pained eyes, 'Is that what you think of me? As some sort of canvas? You never truly loved me, did you? All you cared about was your genetic experiments!'
'No! Xan!' But it was too late.
She was already gone.

-Sometime after the current moment-

The Doctor looked up from a jar containing something unpleasant when Xan entered the room.  The inmate (for among all the members of ARM, Xan would almost certainly be the one least willing to be there) stood in the doorway of the white room for several minutes, staring at the post human thing before him. His eyes roved over every detail of the Doctor, from his immaculate white labcoat to his rebreather that covered most of his mouth and the bottom of his jaw to his solid black eyes. As he stared into his solid black orbs, the Doctor noticed Xan's breathing become subtly faster and more ragged.

Finally Xan spoke. "As time goes, I've lived less than a year, do you know that? I haven't even lived a month in this body, accounting for all the time I've spent in stasis. I have memories of my life before I was born, but for all intents and purposes the being I am now has been in existence for less time than a mature fetus."
Tears begin to slowly trail out of Xan's wide eyes and down his cheeks.
"And all that time I have wondered why. Why were my gifts taken away from me? They were what I was. The sum total of my existence was wrapped up in my change of form."
Xan pulls off his shirt, his face going red as the Doctor glances at his thin, bony chest. "Without that I am weak and lesser. I know the reasons why the leaders of Steve's movement decided to take away your gift. But I need to know yours."
Xan's voice breaks, but he stands there still, trembling slightly, tear streaks running down his face. "Why did you punish me."

After a moment's silence, the Doctor spoke. "You couldn't handle it. Willpower wasn't enough to restrain flesh. Becoming a pattern. Degeneration too."

Xan stands there a while, processing the revelations the Doctor's statement has given him.
"I was unworthy."
He shucks off his pants and walks forward a few steps, standing naked with his hands balled into fists, his scrawny arms shaking.
"The blessing you bestowed upon me was the greatest thing to ever happen to me, and I was unworthy of it."
He sinks down to one knee in a sudden, jerky motion, his knees buckling to get him there.
"I was but a foolish child not fully comprehending what you had given me."
He bows his head and puts his other knee down, bending forward in an utterly subservient position. His exposed skin is drawn tight with goosebumps.
"I beg forgiveness for misusing your blessing. For asking for it when I was nowhere near ready to properly receive it. For believing myself above other beings when without control I was less even than I was before. For all this and more, I beg your forgiveness."
Xan looks up at the Doctor from his position at his feet, eyes pleading.
"You are the only being I could place with any amount of importance to me in my life. My mother was a corpse and I was a fool. But you became my father, and more than that, when you lifted me up from my cage of inadequate flesh. I hope to one day earn that right back, so that I may cast off this cocoon I wear and aspire to greater heights. But only when you decree it so, Doctor. You are my father and my god."
Xan's eyes retain their pleading desperation, but a strange hunger enters them.
"Let me worship you."

The Doctor stands looking down at the frankly pathetic childman grovelling at his feet. At last he slowly reaches to his respirator and pulls it off. Xan's face brightens as it clatters to the ground, and he looks up in a state of rapture.

It's unsure if the sounds emanating from that back room are of ecstasy, horror, or both.

How do you feel about the pimp cane phenomenon? Was there a certain reason you made it an exo weapon, or was it just to make it stand out from most assumptions of what a pimp cane weapon would be?

How adaptable are the bugs in the Hive? Can they be produced to secrete some sort of paralytic or poison, or an acid that could eat through metal?

How useful would you say the Shackle and Skeleton Shroud are? Do you enjoy making up the Shackle challenges, or is it just another tedious thing for you to do whenever I ask for one? Are all the Shackle weapons similar to already existing weapons, or does it have some unique effects? What is the most powerful weapon in the Shackle? Can it take out a Battlesuit or Avatar?

Why do the slashfics involving the Doctor keep on ending with him getting naked?

Are we ever likely to visit an Earth before the obligatory endgame UWM-ARM showdown on Earth-2?

Are Earth planets particularly special in any way, or do they just name them on a whim? Is there a centralized/decentralized planet naming commission? I assume that a planet is named something else (since they are, as a rule, not typically called Gzwpthwww-178 or something you'd actually call a newly-discovered planet) upon colonization, yes?

Who's the nicest person that's had their brain scrubbed and included in Steve? Who's the worst person, for that matter?

Have you thought about any of the missions the past HMRC did?
For example, do you have a general idea about what those 20 something missions the AM did involved? Or who went to the anomaly along with Erik and what happened to them? Or where some of those artefacts from R&D came?

I remember you mentioning previous HMRC people like the kinamp kicker or the coward that survived 9 missions by staying close to the shuttle and got killed by his teammates in the end or that guy the AM liked. Do you have any more previous HMRC characters like those?
