Has anyone had this actually happen?
« on: March 29, 2014, 10:18:39 am »

So I've read on the wiki that dwarven mothers can give birth to twins, or even triplets. I was just wondering if anyone has actually had this happen in one of their forts?

Yeah, I've seen it happen a couple of times. Rare thing, but it happens.

I've had it happen. It's exceedingly rare, though. Quietust would probably know the exact values for it, but I don't.

It's because of the [MULTIPLE_LITTER_RARE] tag.
Wait...
HOLY CRAP GUYS
FEMALE DWARVES DON'T HAVE BEARDS

   [CASTE:FEMALE]
The gender tag lets it know how breeding works.
      [FEMALE]
      [MULTIPLE_LITTER_RARE]
To add beards, put square brackets around the following:
      BODY_DETAIL_PLAN:FACIAL_HAIR_TISSUE_LAYERS

I ALWAYS THOUGHT THEY HAD BEARDS
I'VE SEEN FANART OF THEM WITH BEARDS

I thought all babies had beards too! Or is it just the males?

Just the males unless you mod it.

I wonder, just how many people want their female dwarves to have beards? It seems that a fair amount of people like to mod it in.

There was actually a thread a while back ago (may even still be active) where they had a poll that asked that.

To add onto OP's question:

Had anyone had this happen while the mother was in combat? And what were the roles of the babies? Shields? Bait? Decoys? Improvised weapons? Armor? Throwing weapons? Did the mother juggle the kids while in combat?

I figured they'd tie them together by their beards and use them as nunchucks.

I've had it happen. It's exceedingly rare, though. Quietust would probably know the exact values for it, but I don't.
I only know the exact value used in version 0.23, and that value is 1/500. In all likelihood, though, it's still the same in version 0.34.11.
