Snake - pretty dangerous. Guardian Serpents summon other snakes like Convokers, lots of Salamanders, Nagas that Portal Projectiles into your face. There's a unique Naga with a retinue of Sharpshooters, those can input some serious hurt. Exercise cautions.

Depths - rather bonkers. Packs of Trolls which when mighted by the Shamans can absolutely devastate you. Tengu that hit pretty hard in melee in addition to peppering you with spells. Hell Knight bands with decent equipment. Dire Elephants. Basically tightly packed endgame monsters, 5 floors of them.

Crypt's been somewhat reworked - you definitely need Negative resist in there - Revenants throw Spectral fire which hurts, spawns various spectral stuff, things can slow and reduce your MR on hit. Don't underestimate - not the push-over it once was.

Be careful if trying to stairdance Vaults:5 - you can and will get stair-locked while trying to go up, and it will not be pretty. Be sure to have some sort of immediate escape.

Stay out of blade unless you hate your skills with a burning passion or have 3 pips of rN.

Zot's pretty much Zot.

Also I found the morgues. A bog-standard Gurgle win, notable for nearly dying in front of an audience on the orb run, since a Pan lord spawned with really high-power Glaciate, which caught me by surprise and left me with 20 hp to spare from full, in two turns. Good thing I had Sanctuary.

... so basically, the entire late game is harder :-[

How about Elf:1-2 for getting some more experience? Not sure if I want to tackle the Elf:3 vault, but I have conservation, and banishment doesn't phase me.

Well... yeah.

For what it's worth I take on Elf:3 on every single character I have. On a melee, dig a /\ - shaped corridor using Disintegration so that only one tile is visible, lure nerds there, beat them up and take their lunch money 1v1. You can get hit pretty hard by the Annihilators, Master Archers are as hard as they ever were, but if you've dealt with V:4, you can deal with Elf. Still, try to have at least a pip in rF+, rC+ and rElec.

Your plan of going Snake:5 to Depths is not bad, you just have to be prepared that Depths are a lot harder than the previous D:15-27 was.

My current win went Lair -> Orc -> Dungeon -> Shoals -> Pit -> Vaults:4 -> Elf -> Depths -> Vaults:5 -> Abyss -> Slime -> Crypt -> Vestibule of Hell -> Zot:4 -> oh god the pain please make it stop -> it's not stopping arrrrgh my eyes arrgh

Welp, first char in the tourney dead. My first guy in months of playing too. Made it to XL6 on D4. Tried to fight Sigmund on D2 but ended up running away a few times and just leaving him there. What killed me? An open level, worker ant, adder and some prick earth elementalist ghost spamming iron shot stone arrow. Same difference, death from afar in either case.

@Graven Thanks for that advice. I cleared out Elf:3 relatively easily although I came out rather drained and with degeneration 1 (which pretty much does nothing), but otherwise no major issues. There was some decent loot - a nice artifact glove with rN+, a +2 cloak of poison resistance, and two scrolls of acquirement. Decided to burn them on wands, since I had all but fireball, healing (which I wanted) and hasting (which I didn't want, since I'm a Formicid) left unidentified. First gave me fireball (sigh), second gave me healing (yay!). Feeling a lot better about this character going forward.

I seem to recall that most servers update at roughly 4 hour intervals.

It's also possible that you made an error when placing the text into your rcfile (it's the topmost text in there, no typoes in the name etc?). It's also possible that Dr feelgood typoed your name or the name in the OP is wrong in the first place. We can probably rule out human error unless you're still missing after 4-6 hours.

Welp I definitely won't be streaking. Don't Crawl in 4 a.m. kids. Apparently getting 3 out of 3 TeDKs to the end of the Lair in whatever offline Trunk I have is by far no guarantee I'll be able to do the same online.

I did get one to Lair:5, though. Let's see if I can win the dude tomorrow. [spoiler - highly unlikely]

You already have more points that I may have by the end of the tournament ^^

I played a bunch of guys carelessly yesterday and to no good. I have a more serious contender right now but I'm having the hardest game, orc 4 was full of super hard vaults, Lair had a ridiculous amount of hydras and about 10 death yaks on the bottom, with catoplebas and stuff. On the plus side, I got a mutation on my ds that makes blood turn into fire : FIRE FOR THE BLOOD GOD. Dem nagas on snake just love it (it's 70% of my dps once I get a hit). Btw I'm a DsFi of Ash, so I'm suposed to have an easier late game I guess... Plus I got awesome muts (claw 3, intrinsic rf+, demon summon and other nice stuff).

Also we never killed grinder on champions, just saying.

My XL7 OgWz just found an altar of Nemelex. I was thinking about going with Vehumet and doing a conjurer type char as an ogre. But I've never tried Nemelex and I'm wondering if I should try him out.

How well does Nemelex roll with caster types?

Any room for an intermediate player on a team? I haven't won yet but I've made it to the last room.

I only just noticed that the tourney was happening. Was talking to someone about procedural games and my spidy senses started tingling.

You can ask the server people to reset your password. I forgot mine and asked them to do it on ##crawl @ freenode. If that's gibberish to you, you can probably just go to the crawl forum and look for an appropriate looking section to ask.

Or maybe there's a way to reset it yourself and I've been really dumb this week. If you do ask them to reset it, it might take a while. I had to wait a couple of days but it was before the tournament started. Not sure if they'll get it done faster or slower now that everyone's crawling around.

Well I'm in a bit of a pickle.

Cleared Lair and Orc [sort of] on my TeDK, got Swamp and Snake as branches. That's really nice, since Swamp is the easiest right now, and Snake is tolerable.

Can't really do either, however - Swamp has scary swamp things in it, and Snake has scary snake things. I couldn't take a look around the Orc:4 shops much, since there're scary orc things there. Yred keeps throwing Flaming corpses at me which is a sweet gesture, but doesn't really help against 2 orc warlords and a high priest.

I guess I'll go clear the rest of the dungeon, and then head over to Swamp to try and get a Swamp dragon armour. A Demon trident would also be welcome, but I suspect that's a while ahead.
