We aren't going to starve to death, we don't need to eat any sentient meat so we can let that dry in the sun.

Risking making our burn worse again because of a lack of patience is foolish.

Also, reflect and try to remember all that you can about Mino culture and religion. I have the distinct feeling that Minotaur gods may not be as hostile towards the undead as human gods.

The Plains of Grating, Fifth Age
The Age of Death, Year 625

Day 18, Late Evening

Deciding that searching the slums might be redundant by now, you take the uneven and only partly cobblestone streets back to the keep. There is meat to be eaten, and research to be done, or so you decide. Maybe you only need an excuse good enough to gorge on some of the human meat you still have, but it should be worth it. While walking through the quiet ruins, you leave your thoughts to wander – mainly towards the previous inhabitants.

At some point in time, mino were not an uncommon race on the continent. They always were a warlike species, but not unreasonably so. Enough that most keep some distance to them and refrain from messing around with them, be it on a national or a personal level, but they were never universally disdained or hated. Their gods are mostly straight-forward, just like their charges, with the pantheon even lacking the common trickster god. Even then, you are not that keen on challenging any of them, even if their temples should lie in ruin.

After gorging yourself on the meat – it really could become a habit, or so you find – you throw yourself into studying. Before long, the garden is riddled with ever increasing stretches of runes, formulas and diagrams – drawn into the parched earth with your claws. You are quite immersed in it all, with the occasional break to lighten the strain that it puts on your mental state, and the occasional snack. On one of these exploratory walks, you feel the pull of magic from somewhere below, but leave it at a mental note for the time being. Whatever it is, it has enough power to not be trifled with, the main reason why you leave it as it is for now.

The passing of time is mainly marked by your food intake, with you suddenly realizing that this will be the last sentient meat in a while. Even so, you are close to a breakthrough, and your manaburn has receded to a minor state – it should be gone within the day. With the need to flatten and re-draw portions of the courtyard arising, you are relieved to finally get it right sometime in the evening. You are downright exhausted by now, and vow this to be the last study-spurt in a while...

You have strengthend your divinationic knowledge.
You have rediscovered a new spell.

Improved Sight – 10 MP, Duration 1 Hour
Your natural vision is improved threefold.

The first spell that most elfs ever learn, improved sight supplements the vision of the affected by making the eyes a conductor for scrying. To the relief of many a generation of female acolytes, and the dismay of many a generation of male acolytes, even the easiest of wards is able to impede the sensory improvement at the destination itself. Much coveted by archers, scouts, spies and similar, one should be wary of nausea, especially the first few times the spell is woven.

Currently:
205/205 HP
146/175 MP
50 MP Stored

Status:
Well-Fed - Doubled HP-Regeneration
Sentient Nourishment - +2 Agility and Intelligence for Skill- and Combat-checks
Mild Manaburn - Not really serious anymore, unless you try something too hard or new.

Things to do:

-Hunt an owl.
-Soulspeak with previous inhabitants of the place to have an idea of what happened.
-Soulspeak with the soul of the corpse we have been eating, and force it to tell us what
-Store excess mana.

We are out of sentient meat. We need to prepare for a proper raid to get more, and extablish ourselves once and for all. The following steps should  be taken:

Non-Magical Prep (Do these while we wait for the manaburn to fade completely):
-Attempt to hunt the owl, or at least track it to its nest. If we can find the nest, it may be worthwhile to leave it alone until it produces young; we could chase off the parents and raise the Owletts by hand.
-Perhaps a bit more archery practice while we wait for the Manaburn to fade completely
-Survey your quarters and the surrounding debris, and ponder what steps may be taken to make your position more defensible should the humans track you back home and bring a posse
-Survey the temples. Don't enter them, but do examine them closely from nearby vantage points, and try to determine what sort of god each may be affiliated with. We may consider and debate picking up a divine sponsor should we acquire and appropriate offering on the raid.

Magical-Prep (Wait for the Manaburn to fade before dealing with most/all of this):
-Enslave the soul of Mr. Shouty; Into the owl if possible, but failing that into the human skeleton
-Send Mr. Shouty to scout the human huts and hovels by night, with orders to report back with information on as many as possible to help us plan our raid
-Cast Improved Sight a few times, to get used to the nausea
-Fill up all your mana gems and band of gathering so that have spare magic for the raid

What's this obsession with getting an owl?

The GM is subtly saying no more research for now, I think.

What's this obsession with getting an owl?

Sentient, loyal, and flying is a great combination. Plus owls are just below Ravens and Crows on the list of preferred familiars for wicked casters. ;)

The walls were destroyed by magic and someone's army. I think we really should get both warding and ritualism before repairing any defenses and making it obvious that someone lives here. (We also need to train divination up enough to find our phylactery at some point, and should be steadily increasing the size of our horde while scouting.)

It appears that we'll earn the ability to do more research by doing interesting things/fulfilling the protagonist's villain desires. I don't think scouring the city is going to get him willing to study more, especially without sentient food, and practicing our spells or skills really isn't going to help our ADD ghoul's excitement. For now, I think all that really leaves is scouting around, unless we want to go raid people prepared for the undead when we only have four minions.

-Soulspeak with previous inhabitants of the place to have an idea of what happened.
-Store excess mana.
+1 to these two.

+1 to these. If we're basing out of here, it's better to know more about it before we inevitably draw more heat during reconnaissance.

Magical-Prep (Wait for the Manaburn to fade before dealing with most/all of this):
-Send Mr. Shouty to scout the human huts and hovels by night, with orders to report back with information on as many as possible to help us plan our raid[/quote]-1. We can scout ourselves, and should probably learn more about the surroundings before raiding.

After filling all gems, wait until we have a third of our mana back and scout south, along the river.

+1. I had almost forgotten our phylactery issue,

-Survey your quarters and the surrounding debris, and ponder what steps may be taken to make your position more defensible should the humans track you back home and bring a posse

+1 .This is the second time GM has hinted at that temple and what's buried in there, but it's not necessarily good for us to get involved with it yet. But just looking can't hurt, right?

Then you get cities like Paris where you should basically just kill yourself already.

You won’t have to think anymore: it’ll be just like having fun!

He never said exactly where in town the buried thing is buried. It may have nothing to do with the temples.

Transmute Rock nugget into a fine liquid temporarily, store in a small pot nearby, if there are any.

This will hopefully allow impurities to separate while it is in a liquid state and will return it to its solid state later on with some very clear distinctions of the valuable portions of it, And it will be a great learning experience for making our own crystals later on. since transmuted objects returning to their previous state may hold interesting consequences due to certain physical laws. (I.E liquidizing dirt to allow it to crystallize, or Making solid air bombs.)

Also, enslave lesser soul on "Shouty" when possible.

I am guessing that the longer we wait, the harder it will be to do so, considering The spell's specification of "Newly dead souls"
