Is it possible to bind powerful souls into the goat? Would this make the goat more powerful if possible?

Better question, do goats have souls that we can bind to other things?

The Plains of Grating, Fifth Age
The Age of Death, Year 625

Day 8, Early Morning

With some time until sunset, you use the wait as an opportunity to scatter the remnants of the door into some ravines that are close by. If someone wants to piece it back together, he will have a very hard time finding all the pieces.

You will only be able to make one trip this night, and thus you decide to make the most of it. Eight dead goats later, the horse is a bundle of rope and corpses, while the skeleton and you also carry one cadaver each. After you open the pen, it takes some time until the liberated goats leave – and only do so after you are a fair distance away. You hope that they will move away from the area, but you guess if they are found or not is up to chance.

The trip back takes a fair bit longer, with the horse having problems due to its weight on occasion, but you arrive back at the cave in the early morning hours. It is also by this time that you realize that all of your wounds already have healed. Being a ghoul has its merits, at least as long as you are able to feed. That being said, those eight goats will last a long time, especially if you would prepare them a bit. Either way, your first oder of business back at the cave is to have your fill of human meat, and you feel quite estatic thereafter.

" There is no real limit on what the container of a soul can be, mostly the soul is the limit on what the container can do. It is the main reason why most golems and constructs have four limbs instead of more interesting approaches. Still, making a small body stronger is more difficult than doing the same to a big-boned one... "

Better question, do goats have souls that we can bind to other things?

" The mind gives form and strength to the soul. That is to say, while there won't be no effect at all by enslaving the souls of animals, the merit of doing so is very questionable. Unless it was sentient in life, it is in most cases a waste of time and mana. Which means, mystical animals are a different story, because they sport either arcane powers, intelligence or - in most cases - both."

Well then, time for new directions. Depending on what you want to do, we easily could do another time-skip like we did before. Or breed more nefarious plans. Your choice. ;3

Make our current goat skeleton permanent. Practice our transmutation skills. Specifically, see if we can make our skeletons tougher or stronger by changing the material of their bones.

Experiment only on the goat, and experiment before you make it permanent. No point risking anything important.

Also, experiment with our food. Try and find out what percentage of our diet needs to be sentient for us to reap the benefits - If we can supplement our human flesh with other meat, we can hunt the most dangerous game less frequently.

I dont know, I say lets wait for a king or highpriest so we can bind his soul into the goat. Not that it would be very benefitting but it would be amusing to say the least. Also it could show our power over the worldly powers.

Gods are implied to be real and powerful. I wouldn't dick around with a high priest, at least until we are much stronger.

+1, and start to prepare meat from goats so it lasts little longer/doesn't rot away and give away our hidey-hole with it's stench.
Also, NO DICKING HIGH PRIESTS!

The Plains of Grating, Fifth Age
The Age of Death, Year 625

Day 8, Early Morning

Back in your cave, you start to think about further possibilities. For one, how to go about strengthening your skeletal constructs. The most straight-forward way would actually require you to weave another set of magic over the bones. Well, actually it would go over the already existing magic, but it would result in a stronger undead, sometimes classified as wight. You could try such means, but if it would be crowned with success is another thing. Creating a Zombie certainly would be an easier task.

Another way of strengthening would be to enchant the skeleton itself. Greater durability or weight of the bones comes to mind, but the spell would require ritualism or a somewhat higher grade of transmutation than you are currently capable.

To go back to the knitting comparison, you know a good deal about what loops can be used, but in the resulting pattern lies the real difficulty. Finding the sequences that work as intended is your main problem in that regard. By casting spells you get a better feel for these sequences, and how they can be used, but you are not limited to praxis. Should you try to derive spells from theory, you should be prepared for miscalculations though. These can go range from an undesired effect on the spell itself – like the horse had – to magical backlash.

Oh, right. You don't want to think about diluting your intake of sentient flesh. Or lowering it. Thinking about treating the meat, you only come up with smoking it, but that would bring its own share of problems.

" I somehow got the urge to really mess with a high priest or something... "

Yeah.. some of the instructions were unclear, others can be explained IC without trying an action that we IC know won't really succeed as planned... Oh, and now you know that spell research is viable. Within reason.

We should make the goat permanent. Because we can and will use it. Maybe even as our symbol.

+1. Then rest and try to come up with spell to make our skeletons stronger, wights sound cool and we run on rule of cool smart investment. Do not try any experimental spells before we have few more goat minions to serve as meat shields bone shields.

Actually, yeah, all our experiments can be done on the goats.

I would rather have fewer high grade minions than a swarm of nearly useless ones. We should have a higher chance of figuring out ritualism, since both of its branches are shared with schools we already know. As we're not pressed for corpses, food, or security, now is a great time to practice new magic.

We might want to stab ourselves, since taking major damage seems to increase our endurance and I don't like 'wasting' HP regen. On the other hand, it might be better to be healthy in case of magical backlash.

Make the goat permanent. Smoke the meat tonight. Spend time resting and trying to learn Ritualism on regular goat skeletons, preferably a spell to make our skeletons better in combat.

Fixed to be less dangerous.
