Commanding the legions of the undead from afar would probably be more effective than actually being in the legions of the undead.

Science is always important. But it needs more flaming cats. Can't we build bridge-based catapults and fling flaming cats at the dust and goo?

It's time for the ATHATH Death Counter to increase once more in celebration for the end of the world.

Metabolic Devourer for I like stone walls and we can sit around making more zombies while enemies fail to kill the keystone of our army(us).

So many ties, only one breaker.

The Plains of Grating, Fifth Age
The Age of Death, Year 625

Day 1, Morning

While gauging the mana available to you, it is clear that this ghoul was built as an magical conductor. Relieved at not being prisoner to the body of a brute, you also feel a bit helpless, with all what happened so suddenly. But there is an even more pressing feeling. A feeling that you are somewhat sure that you have not had in centuries. You are hungry. Very hungry. Painfully so. If this is a ghoulish trait, or just you being by now unused to this sensation is beyond you, but it actually hurts.

Either way, you scan your surroundings, whilst making your vessel move some very awkward steps. At least everything seems to work, and thus you take a good look at the nearby area.

The surrounding city is but a ruin – all traces of the presumably wooden roofs have rotted away, and even the clayern bricks are brittle, with plenty of walls crumbled or fallen. There are multiple signs that the end was not peaceful, with the protective wall having been toppled and the occasional scorch-marks even visible after what might better be counted in centuries than decades.

Dominating the scant flora of the area are dry grasses and the occasional twined growth, some which are also responsible for the further decay of the fallen metropolis. There are no signs of any other life to be found, and eerie silence envelopes you – making even your own footsteps audible. This should be part of “The Dead Lands” - or so your memory tells - but anything more eludes you.

Do we naturally regenerate mana or do we need to drain things for it?

Search for anything edible. Rats? Raccoons? Cats? Badgers? Corpses? Anything, really.
Also search for anything else of note--not that much is expected...

Site is currently down. o°
Checked it myself and with another site. Might need to change host if this happens with any frequency...

We regenerate mana naturally. Not doing anything special on that front this time  :P

Alright, changed to imgur again - some of their resizing antics made some stuff look just plainly horrible, but in this case it still looks like it should. Either way, guess that is dealt with.

We should make a regular skeleton to defend us just in case.

Are there any skeletons around to animate?
...Do we need skeletons to make a skeletal minion?

We need Skeletons or corpses for pure necromancy. Evocation could summon things out of thin air, and enchanting also leads to golems later on.

The Plains of Grating, Fifth Age
The Age of Death, Year 625

Day 1, Noon

Without much hope of success – given the state of the city – you decide to use the morning to search if there is anything useful to be found. There is also a slight hope of finding something to eat, but given the dead silence of the whole areal, you are unsure which has a bigger chance of unveiling itself.

You wander the streets systematically, looking out for the smallest hints of success. The inner city looks even worse than where you came to, with most of the buildings simply razed to the ground. To your amazement you make out a statue of some god, albeit buried under the stones that once formed the sanctuary around it, it is in very pristine condition. The implications thereof leave you with a very uncomfortable feeling, and you keep your distance from that place afterwards.

The rest of your search is crowned by the discovery of an old fireplace – it is clearly several months if not years old, but shows that there just might be life around after all. At least your wishful thinking and empty stomach decides it to be so, your intellect more set on thinking it a suicidal adventurer of sorts. At some point you also saw a hawk or a similar bird of prey, making its rounds in the skies, but that is truly all that you could find.

The sun is now in the zenith, and by your own estimate you should have searched about one tenth of the city. With not even scraps of metal turning up, you assume that it has been thoroughly looted at some point in time.
