What Age do you prefer to play dwarf mode in?

I'm curious if most people have a preference for the Age they create their forts in. Feel free to elaborate on why you prefer the one you do.

I prefer the Golden Age, because there are lots of entity-built sites to build around with embarkanywhere, and I've still been able to get Titans.

I usually play in Age of Myth because there's still a good variety of megabeasts.

I cannot tell you how many times my worlds' rocs and hydrae have been killed off by elven adventurers by year 34. For some reason, the dragons always seem to do pretty well for themselves in world gen despite being pathetic hatchlings.

while it's unfortunate that megabeats die off over time, i just find it quite boring without a war or two going on, and those tend to happen more the longer you gen the world.

I tend to stick to short history since a) Takes way less time to generate and b) Engravings seem more likely to refer to events in the fort itself, which I like.

I like it when my civilization has long history with lots of events that can be discovered via engravings and legends mode research. I actually never had anything beyond Age of Heroes in 1051 (perhaps because I never generate small worlds), much more often something like The Seventh Age of Legends.

Either age of myth for megabeast breeding programmes and age of heroes for big old wars (i like putting in lots of modded races which go to war with each other frequently in world gen, to mix it up every time I play).

I don't really care about the outside world, since I play mostly against the RNG. I always disable immigration and very often trading too. I end up mostly in Age of Myth since I gen for 500 years, to get a tower. I always try to have a tower in the game, even if I don't embark near it in the end.

The age of the elves.

I mean you can today reasonably expect a dwarf not to put themselves on the wrong side of a flood-gate, or run through fire. That's progress.

That and well pretty much that.

I always ramp up Megabeast generation so that there's always about 1000 or so various monsters and titans, and 10,000 semi-megas, allowing world generation to get to year 1000 with a healthy population of each monster variety, getting the best of both worlds!

age of myth just due to the greater chance of encountering megabeasts.

This. I also crank up savagery, so worldgen is a real struggle for survival.

It's not uncommon for me to start playing when there are no actual dwarves still alive in the world except necromancers - the dwarven civilization having been preserved by goblin immigrants and their descendants, or else the unconquered dead civilization bug. (This is a bug in which if a site reaches population 0 for reasons other than war, it will keep a civilization alive for the purposes of embarkation in Dwarf Mode).

I tend to set up world gen so that I can have long history while still remaining in the age of myth. Pesky dragons and rocs all getting killed off by year 100? Well maybe if there are hundreds or even thousands of them they will last a little longer.
