I
guess I should work on leveling up this stupid fish...
But I don't
want to. It's a fish! It doesn't know any attacks! It sounds... really boring. Also, EPU is evolving!
[butterfree] Friii friii!
More importantly, Dio is up to lv18 and I'm bored. We've got to Bee Misty! Let's go!
Two pokemon - a lv20 Beedrill, and a lv18 Rattata. Is this really enough to beat a Gym Leader? I start having second thoughts. Q or Novlaike would make for a much better backup - since they are likely to be water types, I should probably switch Dio out for Novlaike.
But that would be admitting GHIK is going to fall... and that's not going to happen. I mean, come on - water pokemon! It's not like they'll know anything super effective against a poison bug.
There's two trainers who want to fight me first - the first one's horsea and cloyster go down so quick I barely even register what they were, but the second's Goldeen gives me pause. It's lv19, and doesn't it know peck? Crap. I switch in Dio... who immediately gets knocked down below half life by a horn attack. Crap crap crap. I see GHIK back out, and no peck comes - a few tail whips, and then the fish is dead.
Okay,
definitely spooked at this point. I withdraw Novlaike as my backup, and put Dio back in the PC. Maybe next time, buddy. Then I head north into the grass for one last quick wild pokemon battle... and Ghik reaches lv21. Okay, I feel a
lot more ready now.
Misty, here I come!
Hi, you're a new face!*
Hi, Misty. I'm XU, a wandering League Trainer.
Only those trainers who have a policy about Pokemon can turn pro.*
... policy?
What is your approach when you catch and train pokemon?*
Uh... follow the rules, so first on the route, and try to not let them die?
My policy is an all-out offensive with water-type POKeMON!
Go, Staryu!
Come on, GHIK!
Bzzzz! *twineedle down to 10%*
*hardens*
Actually, this one's only 18 - GHIK, before you finish it, focus your energy for the next fight!
*focuses energy*
Staryu, baby! *uses super potion to fully heal Staryu*
*twineedles down to half health, poisons*
*harden*
Is these another one of those stupid pokemon that don't know any attacks!?
She's just shy! You shut up!
She won't be for much longer! Open her up, GHIK!
Bzzz! *twineedle*
X_X
Oh no, Staryu! Starmie, avenge your little sister, go!
...
GHIK! Hit 'em hard!
*water pulse for 19 damage*
Bzzz! *twineedle, critical hit x 2*
X_X
HAHA! Hey, Misty - I guess your... all washed up!
Wow! You're too much!*
*pulls out a knife*
Hey now!
*cuts some pieces off a still live Starmie she pulls out of the pool*
What the...
Pieces of these pokemon will grow into new pokemon - how do you think I have enough to fight every trainer that comes by?
Huh... never thought of it. Anyway...
Oh yeah, here's your badge. Have this TM too. Apparently you're approach is a brutal bug barrage! Impressive. You're also
Well... for this battle anyway! Seeya Misty!
As I leave the Gym, Caprese is waiting for me.
I knew you could do it, kiddo!
Oh, hey Caprese. Interested in trading again? I do have a pidgey I hate I was hoping to get rid of of.
Nah, not this time. You're actually lagging behind - I'd be long gone if not for an offer I got. There's a guy in the pokecenter looking for wandering league trainers and I... actually, just come with me, talk to him yourself.
Uh... ok.
Hello, XU! It's good to meet you. I am Seth, and I've come from some place far away. I struck it rich over there, and now I've decided to travel the world sharing my riches with other dedicated trainers. I know you two are both trying for the Pokemon League here in Kanto, and I'm prepared to offer you both an opportunity for an extremely rare and valuable pokemon.
Really? Awesome!
Isn't it, though? But he said I'd have to wait for you to get the Cascade Badge first.
It's true. You see, no gift comes without a price - I'd like to see what you've got. The opportunity to witness a battle between two up and coming trainers, that's all I ask. The rules will be a simple - a limit of two pokemon. You can pick whichever pokemon you want. Win or lose, you'll receive my gift. What do you say - interested?
Give me a minute to think about it - I need to get GHIK here entered into the hall of fame anyway.
That's fine, but I won't be here much longer - decide soon!
What should I do? Should I agree? I would risk losing two pokemon - but then, I could always use the worthless pidgey and the stupid magikarp so it wouldn't be much of a loss. Or I could use my best pokemon, and hope to achieve a solid victory - if Caprese is thinking the same sort of thing, I might not lose anything at all. Of course, if she brings out her best... I don't know how touch she is compared to me right now. She still only had a Cascade Badge, so she shouldn't be
too far ahead, if she's ahead at all... she might have just leveled a single pokemon enough to take on the gym, and now she doesn't have it anymore!
Or I could just turn him down, though I'm sure Caprese will be disappointed - she seems pretty keen on the idea.
