Totally XP void dwarves don't train on schedule. Turn it off, as well as all of their other jobs and they'll go do some individual training. Once they're a novice they will go to training.

aaah, that does make sense from what I was seeing.

All my farmers without even dabbling skill are going diligently to the barracks and training with their assigned weapons. What you said isn't the rule. Maybe the exception?

interesting. I didn't know about the bin thing. How do you keep them from putting stuff in an ammo stockpile into bins? Or do you just not use ammo stockpiles?

You can set an ammo stockpile to not accept bins. I believe you just hit [q], go over pile, and use [c] (i think, although that could be used for something else; in any case, it should show you) to reduce potential bins to zero. What I do is have a ammo stockpile that takes bins near the workshops, then have smaller piles in each archery range/ tower linked to take from the main one. Dwarves should move individual stacks of bolts to the no-bin piles as space frees up.

Yay! Thank you for fixing my military. I've been playing for over a year, but these dwarves just didn't want to fight. Turns out it was the select which squads are active/training in the alerts menu. Doh!

How can you tell what equipment the dwarf is wearing? As in, to make sure he/she has picked up his/her armor?

That way can also see kill list with weapon(or)shield from their weapon(or)shield.

Thanks for that! New question: my dwarves seem to strip off all their armor/drop weapons once they deactivate for their month off (2 squads, alternating months on the schedule). I've found iron mail shirts all over their barracks, some in bins, some not. I haven't found iron on this embark, so I want to melt the ones I'm not using, but without all my squads wearing their stuff...I'll probably melt their favoritest iron chain mail shirt or something. I've set their schedule to be inactive=uniformed, not sure how else to fix it?

Make sure the dwarf in question does not have the Mining, Hunting or Woodcutting labor enabled.

Thanks, didn't know that. It's a bummer since I immediately draft all hunters.
