This is a community suggestion game, combined with a dungeon crawler RPG. It will be like a regular dungeon crawler, with players directly controlling their own characters, but the community will control the monsters they face, which will probably lead to massive player casualties. The setting is a magitechy world, during a massive war between the arcanists and the technologists.
There will be three threads: this one, for signups to play as a player, and for discussion about things you want everyone to see; the player thread, to be used
only by players who are currently playing; and the community one, which anyone
except current active players can participate in.
Player thread hereCommunity thread herePlayers, please don’t look at the community thread, and community, please don’t look at the player thread, due to the unfair advantages it provides. Obviously, I can’t enforce this, but I’m assuming that all of you have some sense of honor. However, you ARE allowed and even encouraged to be on the player waitlist while participating in the suggestion game part.
Here's a brief mechanics overview:
Combat mechanics are very simple. Damage is determined by the formula (damage roll) – (defense roll) = damage. If damage is negative, it rounds up to 0.
During combat rounds, you may take one move action and one normal action, such as stabbing someone or casting a spell. The order of combat is determined by dexterity scores.
Magic is elemental, with standard elemental strength/weakness rules. The most common elements are fire, ice, and earth (earth meaning dirt and lichen and moss, but not trees and bushes and such), where fire > ice > earth > fire. A spell that is strong against its target gets an extra ½ added to its rolls, rounded down (example: fire spell vs. ice target rolls a 4 for damage, it would get +2 damage roll, making the roll 6). Spells cost Energy Points (EP) to cast.
Technology is non-elemental, so it doesn’t have elemental strengths or weaknesses. Some Technology requires EP to work.
As a general rule, technology will be more reliable, and magic will have a higher maximum damage.
The Aspect stat on the character sheet tracks your passive alignment, which is altered by certain items and powers.
There are three ability scores, strength (STR), dexterity (DEX) and wisdom (WIS). All of these are used in relative skill checks, such as stealthy movement, pushing a boulder, etc. where success is determined based on 1d10 + ability score. You must roll HIGHER than the requisite number (not equal to) to succeed.
Also, STR determines your max health points, (STR + 5 = HP), WIS determines max energy points (WIS + 3 = EP), and DEX determines the order of combat.
Name: what you want your character to be called
Stats: assign 7 points between the aforementioned ability scores, STR, DEX, and WIS.
All other things will be determined during gameplay. This information will be put into a character sheet image, rather than lame plain text, when the game is started. The image will also contain such things as HP, EP, and inventory, among other stuff.
