The cavaliers were now more confused than anyone else. Asoth rubbed his chin, thinking Einar's explanation over. It took him few seconds.

"It's true that Ashath the Dragonslayer married Eferian princess in exchange for a promise that his father would be lenient to the populace... but I'm not sure about the name. We will escort you to nearest city with Archives, that would it be-"

Eleonore let out a sigh and seemingly regained counsciousness, placing hand on her forehead.

"Tell me it's just a dream..." She mumbled weakly as she lifted herself from Halldora's knee.

Halldora sat there stunned and disbelieving.
:"N-no, he has to be lying, it's-- it's not possible that-- no! This can't -happen!- We CAN'T have gone into the future, that doesn't make sense!"

: "..."

: "...I apologize for nothing. But I accept that there are some details that need to be worked out."

He turned to Einar with a bitter glare.

: "Now, in case you have not noticed, the Lady is not well. While your people might just let your women strewn about the grass in various degrees of fainting while discussing mad politics, it is far from my customs. Before we go any further, I would see Lady Eleonore to the safety of shelter. I will carry her myself to this city if I have to, charlatan."

It was then that the said Lady stirred.

"M'lady! Rise slowly... You've had a nasty spell, but it will pass in a moment. Have no fear. Your escort is here to protect you."

"Important lady need carry?"

Jorund held his hands out, offering to carry Lady Eleonore if she was too weak to stand. He used to carry his family around all the time so he didn't have a problem with it. That small blond guy clearly wasn't capable of doing it himself, no matter what he said.

"Oh, I'm sorry, I didn't realize that throwing wind magic around and getting angry at people who would kill us if we tried to attack them was taking care of someone. Please do excuse me for not realizing what you were doing. See, I'm just a simple guard, don't always get what you fancy mages are trying to do. I just assumed it'd be better to stop the idiot from getting all of us, including the lady, killed than to make sure she was comfortable before she died. As for carrying her, if she's strong enough, she can ride with me. Otherwise, I think it best Jorund carries her. Wouldn't want to risk you straining your back."

Purposely turning his back to Colt, he walked his horse over to Halldora and quietly asked,

"Are you ok? I know this is a lot to take in and believe. But... we must assume that they are telling the truth. It is the only way to make sure we can protect Eleonore. She'll need you in this time."

"How dare you speak to Prince in this-" The cavalier was silenced with Asoth's hand wave.

"I did offer our healer's help, mister hothead, but you instead replied with threats." Asoth spoke to Colt with angry tone of voice.

Eleonore stood up and shook her head.

"Thank you, Jorund. Important lady fine." The Princess smiled weakly.

"Colt, please calm down." She then looked around, at the walls and pillars of the ruins that once - apparently three centuries ago - were her home.

"OK."

Jorund put his axe in its holster on his back and looked at the Rivans again, suspicion obvious in his eyes.

"Bad beasties?"

He pointed at the dead gargoyles, as if blaming their existence on the Rivans.

Colt closed his eyes. He couldn't be angry at Jorund; the man was too simple to get angry at.

: "Just give her a moment Jorund..."

"Oh, I'm sorry, I didn't realize that throwing wind magic around and getting angry at people who would kill us if we tried to attack them was taking care of someone. I just assumed it'd be better to stop the idiot from getting all of us, including the lady, killed than to make sure she was comfortable before she died."

: "Know your place peasant. I will not pretend not to see your flouting about this entire battle, flapping your lip to Lady Halldora. You care far less about the safety of this entourage than you might imagine, especially to so readily align yourself with the-"

"Colt, please calm down." She then looked around, at the walls and pillars of the ruins that once - apparently three centuries ago - were her home.

: "My apologies my Lady... I  just need a moment to collect my thoughts."

Einar very pointedly did not look at Colt, but instead continued in a louder tone to Halldora,

"My thanks for watching my back in those final moments in the battle. The first two gargoyles I slew were easy prey, but that final one was clearly the leader. I do not know if I would have been able to leave the side of the princess without knowing that you were watching out for both of us. It was a tricky shot that one, but with you clearing the way for me, I was able to do it."

He bowed to her from his saddle and grinned.

"I must say though, I was much impressed by your sword work. Perhaps as we travel, you could teach me how to use one as well? While my bow easily dispatched of these enemies, I suspect that other enemies may not be as easily felled and having another sword user in our group could prove useful. I would be willing to teach you the bow in return. If you wanted. All of this for better protecting the princess of course."

Prince Asoth took a deep breath and brushed some of his hair from his forehead.

"I'm glad we've settled on peaceful resolution of this... problem. Beasties? No, the gargoyles once lived in the mountains and Ancient Forest, but as we're struggling with Lodian threat and the aftershocks of the Imperial split and rogue separatists from the Badland border, we simply can't hunt and curb the monster populations. We don't have enough soldiers that's it."

Eleonore thought for a moment.

"Prince Asoth, I apologize for the behaviour of my people. We're in shock and didn't think straight." She bit on her lip, such apology didn't fit someone her status. "However I wish that your men stopped pointing weapons at our faces." Asoth looked at Eleonore, then at Colt, and waved his hand. The horsemen put their lances and bows to their sides.

"Thank you... and I think I will see those 'Archives' you said about. If there's any arcane or divine explanation for this entire situation, books might be of help. Or... or maybe I will rest for a moment first. There are inns in this, um... time period, right?"

"Yes. There's much more you have to know first... but we will escort you to the nearest city. I need, however, to ask you and your companions to declare what and how many weapons they're carrying. It's that or my lieutenant won't relent till we have your unarmed." The hothead cavalier at his side let out a mumble. Eleonore looked at Asoth, and then at her entourage.

"I have this mere healing staff, Prince Asoth." Eleonore explained obediently, turning her head toward Asoth again.

Einar gestured to the bow he had slipped back into the quiver on his back.

"Got my bow and that's it as far as weapons go for me. And it'll stay in the quiver for the most part."

"Axe."

Jorund held it up for emphasis, then put it away again.

Colt didn't seem to respond for few moments. His fingernails dug in heavily to his wrist and his breathing became heavy. Being disarmed like this brought up every wrong kind of memory. His body was quivering now. He could taste blood in his mouth from his teeth clamping down on his tongue like a vise.

Otherwise, he didn't budge from his position beside Eleonore.

"The only weapons I have is this healing staff. I am merely an innocent Sister."

"Well, maybe not that innocent."

Nerea nudges Colt and whispers.

"Just tell them about the tome you're carrying. They want to know what weapons we're carrying, that's all."
