 "I'm still contained in the summoning circle. You need to let me out." you simply said. The girl uttered a quick incantation in fear as the afrit drew closer, it's fiery hooves clamping against the ground as it's raging aura clouded around itself. Your binds to the pentacle are released.

You turned to the trotting afrit, a fiery blaze trailing behind him and opened your eyes in fake surprise.
 "I....can't beat that! He's stronger than I am. All we can do is flee. May I take you someplace safe?" you said to her.
 "Y- Yes! P-P-Please!" the girl pleaded, filling your mind with pleasure. You charged a green-blue flame in your hand and grinned before lobbing the detonation right into her face. Her body explodes in an azure-green array of flames with various bits and pieces flying apart from the epicenter of the powerful blast. You grinned as the afrit passed by, flashing you a thumbs-up. You return the gesture and he continues trotting along to whatever his charge is. Wait, something's wrong.
You aren't in the Other Place yet.

   You turn over a bit, and notice a decrepit old man lying on the ground with his hands on the pentacle--it's Kren.

Ah. You were summoned by him as well. You prepare to lob another detonation at his face before interrupted by him speaking.

 "Zusfadyn..." he weakly said.
 "You look like you're about to die," you said truthfully, looking over his old and frail body, "Would you like a detonation or a convulsion?"
The man weakly reached towards you.
 "...I bind you to the pentacle." he commands, and your essence is grabbed by the pentacle's magic. You raise an eyebrow.
 "...I charge you to carry on this order without delay and without taking advantage of any loopholes which I do not intend you to use," he said. God damn it. "I will die here today right here. I charge you to bring the Amulet of Samarkand which is in my hand here to the king of Jerusalem, King Solomon himself. Do it hastily--the enemy forces are coming! Go! Do so after I die!" he commanded before a plasm's azure light pierces the air and strikes him clean in the head. You turn, and notice the shot come from a djinni; an ordinary human girl on the first 6 planes, but a large skeletal hound on the seventh.

Look skyward and assert before his god that this is an invalid clause. We cannot possibly know which loopholes he does or does not intend for us to use. The contract is invalid, and therefore we cannot be bound by it.

Look skyward and assert before his god that this is an invalid clause. We cannot possibly know which loopholes he does or does not intend for us to use. The contract is invalid, and therefore we cannot be bound by it.
That was pretty much a GM-thing, because it's hard for me to write something and not have it contain loopholes.

...isn't the whole point of this for us to find loopholes though? What you're doing here basically amounts to "I, the GM, am telling you, the players you have to do this"  then asking what we want to do.

Also, why did we kill Ari? Two out of three players who submitted suggestions wanted to not kill her. The railroading is kind of bad.

The Amulet of Samarkand is basically a thing that no-sells any magical attacks or effects ever.

As I said, I cannot write things without loopholes and only did that because Kren would actually avoid loopholes in his command.

And I mistook your vote to kill her because of the way you italicized safe. It made it seem the safe place was death.

I'm not sure how to reconcile "safe" with "dead." Literal djinni. My plan was to trick her into granting consent to take her away, then enslave her:

When we asked for payment in exchange for our service, she said she'd make us her servant long term. So, clearly she perceives being bound to long term service as a good thing.

Therefore I propose that we make it our long term plan to possess her soul for eternity. She'd like that.

Unfortunately with her dead, and us now apparently under orders to do what Kren wants with an apparently GM-enforced clause that we can't creatively interpret it, I'm not really sure what else we can do other than play "do what we're told" which isn't a lot of fun.

We can't disobey the command, right? And we can't use loopholes. So...I guess, I'll copy and paste what you told us to do and we'll do that?

That is a shame though, I feel as though after aging ten years in magic, a manipulated Ariana is better than a dead Ariana, especially since we planted the seeds a decade ago.

What are the rules here? I was under the impression that as a summoned entity we're compelled by the will of god to obey magicians who command us while invoking our name, but that it's on them to phrase things properly because we're karmically exempt from consequences that are the result of obeying them. That's the whole reason why we can't just show up and run amok and kill humans indiscriminately, because they're the chosen of god and under his protection. But if they command us in his name to do something and we do it, it's not our fault if they phrased things badly and suffer for it.

Again: Be Careful What You Wish For from the Literal Djinni.

Is that not what's going on?
