Agree, plus that's about the LAST thing *I* want to see from this kind of game - author spending valuable development time on useless graphics.

Any chance of us pulling this vessel away?
If not: Take me to where the pirates docked with us. We'll have to take their ship. It must be powerful enough to escape the pull if they were willing to risk this.

Turn 7

"Arm yourself Joey, we've gotta get out of here." you say.

"I haven't got any weapons." he replies.

"Alright, then just try not to be seen. You walk out of the room, checking both ways for pirates, and head off the way that the pirates went. While walking through the hallways, you can tell that these pirates really don't play around. Dead bodies of crewmen are strewn about the place, and once in a while you'll see a dead pirate stripped of his gear laying around. On the way, you find a B-3 Ballistics Pistol on a dead crewman, and give it to Joey.

Soon enough, you find that the pirates have opened a hatch out into open space. On a shelf not too far away, there are helmets, so you and Joey both put them on. Then, you walk out. You immediately duck behind cover. The ship itself has gravity, but not nearly as much as it does inside. There seem to be only four pirates left, and three of them are busy loading crates onto their relatively small ship. All of them have laser pistols strapped to their sides and one stands guard with a laser rifle in his hands.

Turn 8

You pop over the cover, point your pistol at the guard pirate's chest, and pull the trigger. The shot hits him directly in the chest, and he staggers backwards. Joey fires as well, and the shot goes over the pirate's head. The pirates that were looting begin to drop what they're doing, and the guard pirate fires back. Bullets fly into you and Joey's cover, and one laser catches Joey in the shoulder. He cries out, and pops off three shots at the pirates. Two of the  shots miss, and the last hits the guard pirate in the stomach, sending him to the ground, dead. You lean over your cover to see the other four pirates gearing up, three with pistols and one grabbing the dead pirate's laser rifle.

don't bother- if we get out of this alive, there's a nice non-caveman laser rifle for us to salvage.

Turn 9

You fire off three shots at the now geared up pirates. One hits a pirate in the leg, and he falls to the ground. Joey leans over cover and fires off three as well. The bullets hit the pirate with the laser rifle first in the stomach, and then in the head. He falls, blood leaking from him. The two pirates left able to fight begin firing back. Most hit your cover, until one of them hits you in the exposed part of your thigh, and another hits Joey in the chest, sending him to the floor. You don't look at the body, and send off more bullets downrange. Four bullets miss, and one shot takes a pirate in the neck., The last pirate standing stoops down to drag the pirate who you had shot in the leg to cover. As he leans down, you fire off the last two bullets in the magazine. Two in the chest, and the pirate is down.

Evaluate Joey.
>If stable, then go finish the pirates, cautiously. The one with an injured leg is still capable of killing us. Then check their loot, and drop ballistic weapons for better weapons. Finally, hijack their ship, and bring Joey along.
>If unstable/critical, try to determine how to save him, or at least stabilize him.

Turn 10

You dart to Joey's cover and look him over. He isn't moving, and his eyes are closed. Your mind races at the thought that your first friend may be dead. You check his pulse, and are amazed to find out that he has a pulse! He must have just passed out from the pain.

You quickly tear off some fabric from your jumpsuit, and wrap it around his shoulder. You also tear some off and press it against his chest. If the pirates don't have any medical equipment on the ship, Joey doesn't have much of a chance.

You peek over the cover to see what the downed pirate is doing. Just as you peek your head over, a shot flies past your head, and you duck back down. You aim around the side of the cover, and shoot in his direction. Three shots off, and then you look. He is laying, face up, bleeding from his leg, stomach, and shoulder. He's dead.

You limp over, and pick up a laser rifle. You replace your sidearm with a R-23 Blaster, and take the holster off of the dead pirate that had it. Deciding to check for medical supplies inside the ship, you walk into the cargo container area. There is a door in the back, and if the pilot stayed inside, he will have been waiting. You keep your laser rifle pointed ahead at all times, just in case. You slowly open the door, and aim as the door swings. Just as it opens, a hand pushes the barrel of the rifle to the right, and you fire, hitting the wall. A fist catches you in the face, sending you to the ground. You bring your good leg up, and catch the man in the jaw, sending him against the ship's control panel. As he leans back on it, you raise the laser rifle and fire at him. He puts his hands up, and you pull the trigger anyway. The laser hits him directly in the face, and he slumps back against the panels.

You get up and feel your face, it's probably going to be a good bruise. Remembering what you came in here for, you look around for medical equipment. Luckily, there is a first aid kit attached to the wall. You run it out to Joey, who is starting to regain consciousness. You don't know much about first aid, so you do what you can by stopping the bleeding. He will live long enough to get to a nearby planet. You gently move him into the ship, and set him down on one of the six beds. You'd guess that there are six because the crew managed to kill one of the pirates in the boarding process, but you aren't sure.

By scan, check for any hostiles. +1

After liftoff, check to see if we can automate flight even slightly, or set ourselves on a stable course to a nearby planet, and make sure they know we are friendly. Check any sensors for more enemy pirates, more than likely there are more. Finally thoroughly examine the pirate ship, and then just await arrival, keeping an eye on the sensors the whole time ( I have a bad feeling about this lol)
