To be fair, he's also being truthful about the whole magic thing. He has no idea what type of anima magic is what and doesn't really care one way or the other and the only magic users going with them don't use anima so they'll probably end up buying him a Lightning cause it sounds like it should be anima magic.

Naw, that's my point. It wouldn't even be on purpose, it'd just be he'd have no idea he wasn't buying a correct tome. No matter how much he dislikes Colt, he's not going to purposely sabotage him when it comes to battle.

Him having no idea what to buy would actually play into Colt's hand. Colt doesn't mind having the wrong book if it gives him an opportunity to flaunt his superior "noble" wisdom. That and the whole concept where you said you could read.
