Nimbus was an intentional last name. I wanted something related to clouds and nimbus popped out at me. Colt however, was something I sort of tacked on...

I just randomly though of a name, and I happened to like the sound of O'Connor, at least in my head.
EDIT: As for Captain Bloodbeard, I just wanted to make a pirate since NEF2-2 is going to involve the sea, and Captain Bloodbeard just has a nice ring to it.

My, and I'll agree with both of you; I find those sites quite helpful whenever creating characters.  Behind the Name is a boon to heavy-handed symbolism everywhere. ^_^

Hmmm, I can pull out a few more of my bookmarks, if you like:

Rinkworks name generator - Like Xan's link, only with a template option (that I've never really used).
Iranian names - A bit more exhaustive than Behind the Name (and probably even more inaccurate, but I don't think we have any Farsi here). 
Medieval Naming Guides: Pages to Avoid - A reference for the rest of us :P
Scythian Words - "Build your own name."  Useful when I was playing a civilization game as the Saka, and it's not like there are any Saka around to correct me if I flub up. ^_^
