I subscribe to a few 'ASMR' people and I think the videos are really neat. I feel as if a lot of people over mystify/spiritualise this thing though. You can probably experience the same tingle by listening to music that you really like, or a few other things, and it's pretty mundane when it comes down to it. Sure feels nice though.

Videos that work for me: A lot of videos like this one, mostly by the same author. The switching from left to right ear-centred sound generally provokes an ASMR response from me, and there's a fair bit of that. Also- super relaxing & themed around feeling confident about yourself, which is great.

No need for probably, my initial experience with it was explicitly music, and it's since became a fairly simple trick. Doesn't really seem to be much to it, given some practice.

Couldn't say if having a degree of control has made involuntary responses more or less common, though. Never really thought about it, now that I think about it.

I seem to get it the most with visuals and tastes. Though some sounds also seem to work... That video with the guy working on the bowl actually works for me if I turn the volume up. I think it's the scraping noises.

Personally, the at-will kind are markedly weaker than the involuntary kind. Strongest ones were always from my significant other running their fingers down the back of my neck. That beautiful shivery feeling.

Oh huh, there's a term for that.  I never knew what that tingly feeling was about.

I get it on the back of my head/neck, and the only trigger I've ever found is when someone gives me a heartfelt thanks or compliment.  Sadly, and this is a comment about my life, this condition rarely triggers  >_>

Ah, this topic again. It does seem to come up from time to time. But yeah, I experience this occasionally. Usually I feel it as a tingle that starts in the back of my head somewhere and spreads down my spine a certain extent. Depends on how strong that episode is. If I'm focusing on trying to create that sensation while listening to something, it sometimes works, but as noted by others, it's noticeably weaker than if it's spontaneous.

Mmhmm... I one of the earlier times I can remember experiencing it was with Chekan Winter, back when it first hit OCR on the affiliated album, though I was definitely running in to the effect a good five or six years earlier. Still have an easier time with very high energy and/or heavy stuff.

As for at-will, I've personally found it's a matter of practice. It was definitely weaker in the beginning, but after a point (several years of off and on focused intent on triggering, maintaining, and enhancing, the sensation) at-will matched involuntary and at this point I get the biggest hits, so to speak, when it's at-will mixed with and supporting an involuntary trigger (like the noted music, or particular visual or tactile triggers). Maintaining a fairly intense, almost full body "charge" for a full 3-5 minutes is pretty normal these days, which can be quite nice. Tends to have a very interesting ebb and flow to it for the longer sessions, as well~ Quite dynamic, energizing stuff. S'fun, heh.

Is this the thing that makes your arm-hairs/leg-hairs stand on end, with the tingles? For me it triggers during really, really fucking good songs. Every time, too, if its a song that has done it before it will do it without fail if I'm listening to it.

That's pretty much what I mean, but it effects my legs and arms, sometimes reaching my neck. It's a bit surreal.

Yeah, s'far as I'm aware it's the same phenomena, or at least the same sensation being caused by different stuff. Either/or, heh.

And yeah, it started mostly around the spine/head for me, with a little in the limbs. Nowadays it can reach pretty much everywhere, though it's pretty difficult/unusual for it to extend to the crown of my head. It's like I'm a static kappa or something with a little pool of non-static up there. Something something lotus chakra.
