(( So we're going to let morale keep dropping so that we can hoard money? ))

70 is a lot to spend in 1 go. Maybe try a smaller version of the same idea.

Reward each member of the scout party who found the camp with 1 crown. It'll still boost morale and encourage the men to try their hardest but cost far less.
I don't see why no hunting though it's a good way to get food at lower cost and gives the men a way to blow off some steam.

Once you hunt, let's say rabbit, the meat needs to be cooked you can't eat it raw because stomach problems can happen.

If we start a fire the smoke could be seen by the bandits, understand?

3man's right. I think we lose any chance of finding the bandits by camping out right now, but telling them where we are is also a bad idea.

Could you not just alter it to begin hunting as of tomorrow? Rather then an outright no? The idea itself is sound it just needs to wait a day before you begin. Or use a cooking pit which causes no smoke at all.

But what of rewarding the party who found the bandits? We need to raise morale now before it drops any lower.

Break camp 1 hour before dawn and move to surround the bandits under cover of darkness.

They won't move this early so we can catch them at dawn when we have enough light to attack and the enemy are still asleep.

We don't have any time to hunt if we want to catch the bandits. Everyone needs rest. It's not a bad idea, just not something we need to do right now.

I think the extra rations are good enough. We could also gather the men and give a speech about how proud we are of the men and how far we've come.

+1

Well they are bandits so there's a chance that'd they'd totally expect this to happen, but it's still totally worth a shot.

Yes, to awarding crowns to the guys that found the bandits {{10 crowns each or if there is 6 or more than 5 Crowns each}}.

10 crowns is almost a year's pay for a bowman and almost 2 for a spearman lol. 1 crown is plenty that's a full month's pay. Pewds suggested praising the men already in her original post.

We can hunt in the afternoon after the dawn attack. We need to head back to rest the men for a few days anyway and its a way to maintain the men's skills and let them have some fun while also benefiting. Could also be used to train the spearmen in hunting and stealth skills.

A speech is different from simple individual praise. We can do both.

Kinda redundant to tell them the same thing twice though isn't it?

She's a she as far as I know, I always refer to her as a girl and she's never corrected me so I assume so.

So the final plan is.

Camp for the night with no fire.
Give the men a double ration of food.
1/4 men on guard at all times in 2 hour shifts with 1 officer at all times.
Publicly reward the men who found the bandit camp with 1 crown each and give a speech to praise the whole company.
Break camp 1 hour before dawn to surround the enemy camp in the dark.

Formation wise I think 8 spear and 15 bow with us at the front to make the first move.
4 spear and 10 bow to left , right and rear of the camp who will move in after we draw the enemies attention either to attack on all sides if they fight or trap them if they try to run.

We have number, experience and equipment on our side plus surprise if we sneak in successfully. We don't want any of them to escape with information on us but we should give them the chance to surrender.
They're more useful alive.

Maybe our group moves in and demands surrender then if they refuse we open fire and the other 3 groups do the same from flanks and rear.
Spearmen stay behind us and move in if the enemy attacks to screen our bowmen.

I'd expect them to break the moment our flank units open fire, if not they're surrounded and cut to shreds in minutes anyway.
