Consider it 'Intermission' :P

We shall weave the greatest intermission to ever be seen by mankind.  :D

  So, this is the plan:

-Attempt to get the hounds

-Track down and find Bandit Encampment.

-Attempt to recruit the more competent bandits.

-At the end of the month/job (whatever comes first), get our pay. If he refuses for some reason, discuss whether or not we take over take over.

-If possible, get a Bonus.

I'm back again. Hopefully somebody's still interested.

You set out in the morning to meet the Duke again, to see what kind of equipment, particularly tracking hounds, you can get out of him. He tells you that while he much prefers falconry to the noisy dirty sport of hunting with hounds, he does keep a kennel, and will let you use some of the hounds to track the bandits. However, he says that his own men have tried this method several times and while they have sometimes found hastily abandoned camps, they never managed to catch the bandits. You shrug at this and take the dogs away.

You decide that the best way to fight the bandits is to pull each group out by the roots, by fighting them in their encampments. You realize as well that as the Duke told you just to "deal with" the bandits, you could recruit the better fighters from among them to fight for you. Your men leave town to find the bandit camps just before midday, and head west to the bandits' known hunting grounds. As you walk along, you see that many of your men are still tired from their frequent marches in the past few days, and their morale drops slightly as you move along.

You send patrols out throughout the day, and about three hours after you leave town, one of them returns, saying they smelled woodsmoke off the road about another mile along. The Duke gave you a map of the settlements in the area, and there's no village anywhere near, so something must be up. It's probably a bandit group, but it isn't likely to be one of the larger ones. How will you respond to this? Will you fight these bandits, and if so, what is your plan?

dammit our boys are too tired...lets just find a nice defend-able location to camp out and rest. We'll get them another day.

By defend-able i also mean good hiding spot also. avoid campfires to avoid being seen by anyone ESPECIALLY the bandits.

((obvious interested. Welcome back :D))

Walk around camp and talk with all the men praising them for good work.

Give all the men a double ration of food tonight. 1/4 of our force including an officer on guard in 2 hour shifts all night.

Give each bowman 1 crown, each spearman half a crown and members of the patrol who found the camp double in reward for good work.

(( Food will help them replenish energy and a reward for hard work will help with morale. We have 201 crowns and need 55 to pay a month wages, this will cost 65-80 including the price of the extra ration. We'll make it back in loot later and more importantly it'll recover morale and then some and will make the men loyal to us and willing to fight harder. ))

(( The bandits need to eat as well. I'm sure we can recover 1 days worth of rations but even if we can't tired men don't fight as effectively and we can't give them 3-4 days to rest up so extra food means more calories, it'll only work for a day then the lack of rest will catch up with them again but we only need a day. Once we can show results we can take a few days to rest the men without the boss getting grumpy.
Besides our supply status is good so 1 extra ration won't cause any significant problems.

I'd rather lose a days food so the men can fight at there best then lose men because they were tired. And I'm sure we can make up the money in the long run over the course of the job. The men being in top form and having high morale will make the job easier so short term loss for long term gain.

We could start offering a small reward to our men to hunt when they're not on duty. They bring in food so we need to buy less supplies it'd save us some money and they are skilled hunters. Buy some salt or smoke the meat and we can augment our supplies nicely especially when we're on terrain like this thats rich with animals.))

Yes to double rations and no to the extra crowns or hunting. Berries (that are safe to eat are fine though).

Again, camp fires could alert those bandits and we need to be ghosts. Trackers and attacker's but not known or on the wrong side of a ambush.
