Paintball
« on: March 15, 2014, 10:17:29 pm »

I know alot of us bay12ers don't do many sports, god knows I don't. But any chance I get I'm on the paintball field. I have an empire mini with a z2 hopper and a 4500 psi gorilla air tank. Have any of you played or are you interested in playing?

I play irregularly, and almost exclusively use rentals (more often than not, they're Tippmanns).

I've done it a couple of times, but haven't been interested enough to buy a gun. Mostly just a situation where I did it along with a group a friends. I dunno, thread may convince me otherwise, so PTW.

I've noticed that most rentals are Tippmans. They are very sturdy, but otherwise not very good.

This reminds me- I have a whole bunch of free paintball tickets, redeemable anywhere in Australia.
Who wants to come with? I've never played before.

I've played before. Fun times, lots of welts. I played with my brother and his friends a few times, and in another case my oldest brother joined in as well.

One game, after already going a round, and having been shot before (about 3 times in a row when I was changing cover; hurt like hell), I managed to dodge fire again when changing cover and was ducking away before taking a shot. Well, before I could start taking a shot, someone from the other team jumped into the same pit I was in (we were fighting in a woodland area); seeing me in the pit, they thought I was shot and sitting out or something, after they asked me if I was shot, I turned my gun on them and fired away.

Landed about 5 shots into them before I was fired back on and shot in the foot on the way out. Still one of the best kills I've made in a game of paintball.

Fortunately, a recent co-worker has the means to play a game, and has invited me to play whenever a game is setup. And especially after doing the kind of work we do (mostly carpet and tile cleaning with the occasional house cleaning; plenty of heavy equipment, and mold remidiation requires demolition of walls and floors and such (and mind you, tile is heavy)), I've actually built up a bit of stamina (a generally lacking quality of mine) and overall strength to maybe take more shots, just in case someone decides to vote in Ironman Mode (1-3 shots =/= kill. Instead, you last until you pass... out. In other words, get shot 'til you drop.).

Really caught my interest whenever I saw people play it.

Only that I'm unsure how painful it is when somebody is hit.

Poke yourself as hard as you can with your strongest finger, and amplify that by maybe 3-5x the amount (depending on your pain threshold), and you have a better idea of how getting shot by a paintball feels.

God help you if someone decides to cheeta you in revenge.

I have little pain tolerance and couldn't take it.  I used to wear really thick clothing when I tried playing with some friends locally, but I've never played on an actual paintball field.

Then one day I got shot in the eye by my brother by accident (we weren't playing at the time).  My eye was fine after a couple of days of seeing things in yellow, but I haven't picked up a paintball gun since.

Hopefully I'll be going paintballing again in the next couple of months; it's a lot of fun.

The closest thing I have to an anecdote is this:
The place we were paintballing at had some rules, such as thou shalt wear a mask, thou shalt not shoot for the face, and specifically, thou shalt not shoot at less than 5m without offering a chance to surrender; so when a guy came up behind me he shouted "Surrender now!". Unfortunately for him, my reflexes were sufficiently fast that I managed to shoot him twice (in the neck [it was a mistake!]) without him getting off a shot.

@Tiruin I wore jeans, a long sleeved T-shirt and a baggy shirt and I'm pretty sure I'd have been fine. Of course, I've always managed to avoid being hit, so...

I've got a low threshold, but you're usually wearing pretty thick clothing.

Imagine a two-year old punching you hard. it'll sting, and it will leave a bruise, but it's not so bad.

Especially when you shoot them instead in the next round.

I've been once; A friend was bought a few tickets for his birthday and I got one of them. It was a laugh, but I couldn't see anything most of the time because of fogged up goggles.

Planning to try some indoor airsoft next as there is a good place not far.

memememememememememememememe I'd be interested, but I'm in WA, which is probably a bit too far away from the eastern states..

oooooh, over here we call it Highlander. It's fun, and is the main source of most of my paintball welts/scars :3

When I play paintball I have a weird tendency to not get shot. Which is nice, except for when you're three games in and you're still nervous about being shot.

Except for when I play those matches with 300 people. I get pelted often there. At least the tanks didn't see me.
