Well the main issue is in the mod zombies can actually infected the "Survivors" so one bite means a death sentence,
If the mod uses syndromes and curses for the undead, you may find it useful to armor up your militia, since curses don't transmit through bruises, that is, they need to do something like:
"The zombie bites the militia captain in the lower left arm tearing the skin through the -copper gauntlet-"
Tough it don't transmit if it was a bruise, like:
"The zombie bites the militia captain in the upper right leg bruising the skin through the *steel greaves*"

So an well armored dwarf survivor may not get infected wounds...

Huh. I didn't realize that was possible in DF. Out of curiosity, what tag did you use to do that? A syndrome like necrosis with bite-based venom seems like the obvious choice for killing the dwarf, but how do you make them rise as undead?
If I were to guess, I'd say adding a NOT_LIVING tag... but then they don't die, they just stop living  :-\.

For an aboveground "town", archer towers are probably the best solution. From my experience playing on a haunted map, you NEED a corpse-disposal system. I was lucky and could drop the suckers directly into a magma pipe, but without digging miles underground, that's not going to happen. A single tile deep pit with a drawbridge above and some wooden spikes below might work. Use the spikes to knock the corpses out, raise the drawbridge, dump the new corpse, and lower the bridge. Your dwarves won't get needlessly terrified OR slaughtered by zombies.

Unless corpses don't endlessly reanimate in this mod, so it's a moot point.

Hard science is like a sword, and soft science is like fear. You can use both to equally powerful results, but even if your opponent disbelieve your stabs, they will still die.

A boringly simple way of dealing with undead is to wall off your town and then build a simple grinder. The grinder is a long hallway with raising bridges as its floor - three at least, all in a row. At each bridge change-over, you put a pressure plate triggerable by any enemy, and link it up to all the bridges.

Chain up a bait animal in a small room at the end of the grinder, and the undead will kill themselves and clean up afterwards.

I find this a bit cheaty for goblins, but I let myself use it for undead because unlike goblins, zombies are supposed to be mindless, so I don't mind exploiting their A.I.

The mod i am playing is just the Corrosion Mod i am not sure how the maker made it so the infected rise up etc.

So far i have found the best way to dispatch them is by having a trained division of soldiers with Machetes and then a backup group with Crossbows.
