I've been playing as Poison Ivy a lot, too bad I don't have face book.

It's a pretty fun game, even though 100% of my wins so far have been when the feral batman on the team realized that we were hopeless and went around capping the points as we smeared ourselves against the enemy team in 4v5 battles. This has happened several games.

The match making system has probably dropped me from the "newbie" tier into "the family pet accidentally started the program" tier by now. Which is nice.

Back-capping is a good way to win, especially against teams who just tunnel vision fight. :P Better teams will leave one person behind to stop that-or use the teleport power when they see someone lurking around...

And I generally like the classic poison ivy skin, over her normal one-I don't think you can get it any other way. It's not too much of a hassle to make a facebook account, if only for that.

So I have been playing...and with MOBAs I have the amazing luck to seemingly always be stuck on atrocious teams...now I am not saying I am the best MOBA player out there...but when I carry with 9 kills and 0 deaths and we still get stomped...obviously its not my fault...I cant wait to get out of this atrociously low level play.

That aside I have been playing as Star Sapphire (pretty close to LoL Orianna which I have lots of experience with) mostly as I tend to play the pew pew mage in MOBAs and I like her...I would like more champs but I don't think I am ready just yet to start sinking money into it...not to mention the prices are all so steep right now.

Sooo... folks that are playing. Does it do anything new, so far as breaking off from the old AoS ripoff/DotA humping formula goes? Anything that separates it from basically being LoL with superhero skins?

The normal map for Infinite Crisis has capture points, arranged in a ring, you can move through the center of the map where there are speed boost pads and nobody can see by default unless they slap down cameras or the like. At certain times an "orbital cannon" unlocks for capture, but it drops larger sieging robots and blows up some map terrain (and presumably anyone standing there, although I've never seen anyone be hit by it) - although the last time it fires it blows up the center of the map and causes a huge shockwave. I haven't tried the pvp-playable map type.

As for comparisons to LoL or AoS/DotA, the only thing I've really played much is LoL, and then only to player level 10. From what I remember, in LoL there was one normal map that everyone played, which had three paths, towers galore along said paths, and some kind of community-defined rules dictating that certain characters must always go on the top lane and others on the bottom even though both lanes looked identical. I vaguely recall there being some kind of capture-point game type, but apparently playing it was frowned upon for some reason that was never really explained to me (aside from "if you play it, you're a [Censored]"). I was much happier quitting than I was listening to all the players bitching that I was playing incorrectly (meaning I was trying something different, experimenting, or when I was playing Nidalee, which was most of the time, because I was ignoring the meta and going where-ever there were vulnerable targets or allies in need of assistance instead.

... which is to say that the normal map (that you've played) is LoL's dominion map with a minor twist. Got'cha.

That... doesn't speak well for deviation from derivation :-\

Community doesn't really mean to much to me in regards to these games... I just mute everyone that starts spewing vitriol anyway. More interested in mechanics -- especially broader level stuff -- than anything. Defaulting to a more arena based map isn't the worst of things they could do, but... it's still "This is a Warcraft 3 custom map" level stuff, y'know? Not necessarily a bad thing, especially if you haven't played old SC1 or WC3 custom maps to death (many of which were great, and being compared to them isn't always the worst of comparisons), but... I kinda' have...

Its extremely similar I am afraid in pretty much every way...the only differences I am noticing is that they have a slightly different mechanic for getting money in matches and the fact that you can buy items at any tower. Getting money is similar in that last hits are best but if you dont get last hit then a dead minion will leave behind a coin you can pick up for partial value...you can also pick up enemy coins to deny them the chance to pick it up

Basically yeah. It's incredibly generic from what I have seen. That's not to say I'm not having fun, but yeah it certainly doesn't really have that much special about it. I sorta wonder if this game will withstand the withering firepower that heroes of the storm is going to bring to the table. I certainly wouldn't spend any money on it until I saw how that goes.

I can probably count the non-generic MOBAs on one hand... Though I only know of exactly one untypical one... and all it did was make it a 3rd person view. (No wait... Uhh Awesomenauts was also atypical, and it did that by making it a platformer)

MOBAs are in their "World of Warcraft" phase, where everyone needs to be like the original DOTA. To the extent where with every single Moba in existence you can even point out who a character is meant to be imitating.

By the way, can we talk about the orbital cannon? Is it actually worth capturing? Except on the final shot that blows up the whole map (which could be amazing if it lands right before or during a team fight... But typically you already need to win a team fight to get it... So eh.) the meteorites don't seem worth it, and the big robots that are summoned, although cute, are also really weak. I can't help but think that it's actually the time to push for capturing the points when the orbital cannon is unlocked in the hopes that the enemy team tries to capture it and you can go on to actually take the real objectives on the map.

Generally, I find the orbital cannon worth capturing for three reasons.

-It's a big teamfight. Time to clean up the enemy a bit and earn kill streaks. If you're three capped, you'll want people in mid-if the enemy risks fighting there, you are still gaining points over them.

-It's an extra point, an actual objective. It counts as a cap, and you will get points from it.

-Those bots have a use, actually. When they run up to the points, they distract the defense turret-it gets shot instead of players, and you might have figured out already not to fight on a point unless you're sure of winning. Makes it extremely easy to dive a tower, without that thing shooting at you. Likewise, intercepting it in the jungle and killing it is a pretty good idea if it's clear you're going to lose mid.

So, in most cases, you can actually push a 4 or 5 cap when you win the orbital cannon. Of course you need a team that is able to exploit that. If your team is stupid, you might as well just back-cap something else and hope you don't get dived.

Now isn't the most terrible time. :P There's tutorials and bot matches to learn the game now, which the lack of caused a lot of righteous complaints the first time the post went up. Each tutorial gives a free champ-Gaslight Batman, Green Lantern, Doomsday, Wonder Woman, Harley Quinn, and Batman-so if you bought them beforehand, don't be surprised if you've got a bunch of free gold/silver in refund. And all the character skins are free atm too.

They have been throwing out a lot of free candy lately.
