Yeah, I noticed a bit of that too.  "Minmaxing" so to speak kind of captures the sort of calculating animal hardness you'd develop in this kind of situation.

The limiting factor on meals is water.  One meal is one filter is 3 parts.  We can upgrade one of our workshops for ten meals.  Marko has 15 slots, we can't afford to lose him, but is Anton worth a meal?

This is a really harrowing game.  I was doing awesome this round and for a while I was riding high and it suddenly hit me that in all likelihood these good times are temporary and things will be very bad.  That thought seriously distressed me in a big way, and I was right. Things are very bad right now.

The downside is that minmaxing against a static "opponent" means that any flaws can (and, from an in-universe perspective, should) be exploited, whereas a normal merchant would just tell you to sod off.

As I recall, the double food on the upgraded stove is 1 meat, 1 veggie, 2 water, 1 fuel. Even if he's not worth keeping around for what he can do (never had Anton; what's his specialty?), it's probably worth keeping him alive just to avoid the morale hit. (Also, see spoiler.)

Haha, yep. I was cruising along, smooth sailing based on a moonshine economy... oh, it's the cold season... just started distilling another 5 bottles... people are hungry, time to cook food... time to change the water fil--- aw man. Doesn't work in winter. Okay, well, time to melt some snow. Wait. That takes fuel. Okay, burn some lumb-- no, ironically, I spent the last of my lumber upgrading my heater. Well, you guys are going hungry(ier) tonight.

Kind of random thing I noticed-- if you have the resources for it, having a bed for each person works out quite well. At night, everybody (except the scavenger) guards and they sleep in the daytime. If you have a labor-intensive economy (cigarettes, mostly) you might want one person sleeping at night and the rest guarding.

First play, when I'm at around day 26, with 2 depressing guy left, I was saved by the marketplace glitch, ruined the experience now that I can trade an empty shell into all foods and supplies that I can bring back.

gods be good i had a glorius run till day 30, when i was suddenly laden with aks and shotguns and other stuff i found in the supermarket of all places. Having fixed them all and build a not negligible amount of ammunition, as well as fixing a helmet and a bulletproof vest i got overconfident. Marco armed to his teeth was sent out to raid some armed thugs who were holding huge amounts of stuff. And before he even killed the first guy a single bullet hit him and he was dead. Moral of the Story: helmets and bullet proof vests are shite.

A bulletproof vest is only reliable against an AK past like a hundred feet.

That's some unflinching realism though.  No heroes in Pogoren.

This game is all about heroes. Just not superheroes.

Finished this last night after a few failed attempts. I like it that you can theoretically win without engaging in combat. I ended up taking out the guys in the warehouse towards the end, but I believe I could have made it through without doing so with a bit of care.

I'm very happy that these kinds of games are getting made more.

I'm making a game called "Innkeep!", where you run an inn set in a low-fantasy world and try to lighten your guests pockets. Forum topic here.

I actually really like the combat in this game. Is there anything out there that's similar? It gives a sort of Gunpoint and Mark of the Ninja vibe for me, though not entirely either.

I have to say, one of my most tense moments was when I was raiding the... villa? and was stuck racing the clock to get home on time.

I stealth-killed somebody with the hatchet and dove for cover in another alcove, but his buddy spotted me as I ran up the stairs. Knowing there was nothing up there but a locked door, he stood there and waited (!). Little did he know, I was packing a lockpick. Picked the lock, made a break for the exit from the top floor. One of them saw me as I dropped down a floor and took a few shots at me (none of which hit, thankfully), as I ran out into the street (offmap). I got my revenge the next night... (Well, not there was much to be had. I mean, I was the murderer, in this story, but...)

This game is all about heroes. Just not superheroes.

Both heroes and the cowards are here in force, just looking to survive...

What happens with the kids who want food for their mum (after the medicine)? I didn't get to finish that one since I was running off cooked food and didn't have any cans.
