The use of two full stops instead of three for an ellipsis is one of the many things that rile me up. It's even in the Windows update screen.

The apostrophes are just pain. Pain served in neat, one-character sized packages. Take the ones you're putting in unnecessary places and put them where you've left them out. It's that easy!

I have the opposite problem, I use three periods where I should use two.

... insofar as I'm aware, there is precisely one place you would use two periods (command line stuff, backing up to next folder up in the hierarchy... or is that one period?), and it pretty much never actually comes up in proper writing. Which... I guess is where you run into the problem?

I repeatedly make the same mistakes on a keyboard, so I imagine it's just something about the "e" there that feels more convenient to the hand.

I mentioned the alot when someone kept using it on an AotBT server I go on.

'Anyone got alot of wool'
'As far as I know, you can't shear alots'

'Anyone got aluminium? I need alot of it'
'Alots don't give you aluminium, either.'
'What the hell is an alot?'
I'm occasionally guilty of this. Alot just sounds right in some situations to me.
I mean, "Alot of them" sounds more natural that "A lot of them" to me.

Why do people write rediculous?

The answer is simple: People write many of their words phonetically. Which SOUNDS more like the way people pronounce it?

I have been reminded of an argument on the pronunciation of the word margarine.

It ended with a call to a margarine manufacturer to ask them directly. Then the staff started arguing over the pronunciation.

Y dew peepul rite rediculous?

The anser is simpl: Peepul rite many of ther words foneticly. Wich SOWNDS mor liyk the way peepul pronowns it?

Basically, whenever I say it I tend to drop the vowel between r and d to begin with. So it's kinda r'dick-yul'ss.

"Ruhh diculous" for me.  Also, marge-rin- just two syllables.  Apparently I say "strength" hilariously as well.   "Streehhnth" or some such- yay Southern accents.
