Okay...
After the failure of my Frozen Kobold challenge due to the toad extract save bug, I was thinking hard what to do next. I will probably come back to the Frozen Challenge, once the toad bug is fixed completely. Until then, I will do something else. I know a lot of people asked me to play Warlocks, but sadly I had no fun idea for them. I need some big goals.
Undeadless is certainly an option, but I'm not sure I want to babysit 15 Warlocks for an ingame decade... I somehow more like it, when there are a lot of funny little creature running around, and rarely do what they are supposed to do...
So we do another Kobold fort....
Embark location looks as follows: (The screenshot is from a testembark, haven't done the real one yet)
The world has all races, including dark twins, but no Fortress Defense races. They can all reach this location!
I tried to find some 2x2 temperate ocean with as little landmass as possible, and this was the best I was able to come up with. The embarklevel is z99, the lowest waterlevel (which is still covering most of the map) is z89, z88 then is completely solid. Afaik this ocean does never freeze. (if it does, i reembark at a similar location)
Sooooooo now my fortresses always have some idiotic rules...
Lets do it quick:
- no 2 men squads and all Kobolds do every work (because that is what Kobolds do)
- We don't use power! ever! (because we are Kobolds, not dirty animalhugging Gnomes!)
- no walling in, cagetraps and other fun killing easymode nonsense (commonsense for my fortresses..., so no, there won't be minecart grinders this time)
- YOU SHALL NOT TOUCH THE LAND! - Building anything or digging into the earth at any zlvl>=90 is forbidden. Yes, that also means the current wagon spot and the surface. Get off the land asap! We are Kobold pirates, made for the high sea! (Damn, I need a parrot!)
Yeah that's it.
Now I already see, how you are sitting in front of your computer thinking: 'Meh, this guy... Really another above ground fortress? Hasn't he made enough of those? I'm tired of this shit!'
Well... All I can answer to it, is the following: 'Why didn't you read the title?'
Certainly, we have to live above
ground sea for a bit... But as the rules section got a bit shorter this times, we add a megaproject goal. Pirates of course do not only live in houses on the sea, but they also need a proper ship. And what is more proper then a submarine? So... the goal is to built a submarine. Yeah... That is what Kobolds do in my book... And in my book, the Kobold submarine has some very clear requirements:
- In the end, all the Kobolds have to live inside the submarine, all workshops, sleeping rooms, etc have to be inside the submarine
- The submarines lowest floor has to be at z91 or higher, so not directly on top of the ground. (we don't want our submarine to be stuck, do we?)
- The highest floor can be at z97. Otherwise the submarine would be at the surface, and then it would be a ship, not a submarine
- As we need something to hold the thing (stupid dwarven phsyics) the submarine can either be connected to the ground (z88/z89) and/or our abovesea-camp (z99). No sidewards connections to the land.
- The submarine hull has to be build entirely from glass. Because we are not only pirates, but also marine biologists and want to look at the fishies. Oh and because a bone or leather submarine is certainly not realistic. Yeah, and we don't use metal, because uhm... yeah, we don't use it.
So yeah... that's it. I have no idea at all, if this can work out. I think from a survival point of view it is a fair bit easier then the frozen version... Well... It surely is. But this fortress will also not be about survival, even though as I have no experience with Kobolds besides my 3 seasons in the frozen challenge, so it may still be quite tough to defend myself ^^ But the focus this time is on the funny megaproject. The two rules with 'no digging above z90' and 'no power' make this a bit interesting, but as usual, I already have an idea, how it may be possible to do.... If it will actually work as I imagine... we shall see.
In any case, this certainly takes a few years... I will need a few years above sea, to actually get what I need and somehow defend myself, before I can start diving... And that is certainly also not done in a single ingame year ^^
