What is the best way to get charcoals aside from buying them and doing 'Help with charcoal production' (5 Oak Charchaol (21 resistance) every 2.5 hours cooldown time)?

A quick look into the Game Guide reveals that it's...Alchemy that produces Charcoal.

Which requires 50 silver to train in the port town, whose name I cannot remember.

Do the charcoal quest with the Alchemy skill, then you can make it

I'd say pick something that pairs well with your primary skill, such as whatever gathering/production skill goes well with it. Or save it up for the guild building/personal housing.

I have 9.  I also haven't completed any for over a day now.  Been working on cutting blocks and gathering stone.

I am also a fashioner. Tannery, sewing, jeweler. Right now I'm just doing the starter quests and part time jobs to get some money after blowing most of my silver on a basic rapier and set of leather armor.

Yeah, think I'm going to focus on the Jewelry side of things for now. Shinies~. On a related note, I'm also going to need Files to make things out of glass. Huzzah for production chains. Can't wait until we get a proper guildery.

By the looks of it there are SEVERAL things that if someone started producing in quantity they could make a lot of money off of right now.  No competition means you set the starting price for the inevitable price war.

Let's see:

Glass
Lumps
Blocks
Tannin
Bottles (These will move fast)
Fiber
Files
Fasteners

Just a few base resources that are produced by one trade and used by another that have almost nothing (most actually nothing) on the market.

I'd like to know ultimately, how good potions start getting. As of now they're terrible due to low skill, but will they eventually be worthwhile?

Paying attention to chat, most everyone is asking for potions that give, like, negligible skill. 0.2, etc etc. I assume they'll get much better, but it also seems like people want the minor stuff too.
