It seems to raise as you gather/craft things so yeah, do that. It is pretty slow though, so a tool certainly helps.

Yea, you kind of need tools in each field to progress far enough since only 40% of your total stat comes from a single source.

I like the game because it has a good design and so far a good community, maybe because it has a much higher emphasis on crafting aspect of things vs combat that you tend to see in rpgs.

Well apparently we can learn every skill with a single character so it's ok if we all start as blacksmiths, we can always branch off later.
