Ha! I just discovered a couple of Czech players. Seems like a good chance to improve my Czech skills. Although I suddenly wish I had a male character. Naturally the two guys, having discovered a female who speaks their language, have immediately begun flirting with me. : /
doesn't sound too bad...but isn't it relative normal as an female player that the guys attention is a little bit higher as with other male players?
Yes it is, and it's incredibly irritating. Even in a game like this, where the percentage of female players is higher than average. I could just make male characters, I suppose, but I hate the thought that I should have to. I *like* my badass wood/stone/metal girl. It would be so nice if, just once, I could reveal my gender in an online game and NOT have the first response be "oh, cool, where do you live?" and, upon discovering that we live near to each other, "so do you want to meet in real life?" Based on the sole criteria that I'm female and play video games...
In real life I can escape male attention easily simply by dressing comfortably, but in video games, the images of female characters are always sexualized. We always get these cute little faces with pointed chins and makeup (did you know that when you create a female character in most games, you must choose your makeup, and "no makeup" is rarely an option?) and almost always long hair.
Okay, rant over. It doesn't do any good to complain about such things, I know, but now and then I do need to get a little of it out of my system. : ) Also, thank you to the B12 folks for almost never treating me differently for being female!
