Get every factor of skill as high as you can. Thats really all there is to it. If you hit a wall, take a few days to make stuff for sale on the market and then buy a better tool/workshop/companion/jewelry/buff pot. Or if you have friends, ask them for help, you can often land various tools and other supplies a lot cheaper than market value by asking friends, just remember its a 2-way street. And even though the best tools are in the 40's you can still level up quite a bit with them, it just gets a lot slower as you outlevel the various factors and eventually hit the skill walls.

Lignite is indeed suitable for sale and trade. There are a few b12 members who have and continue make a killing selling massive amounts of lignite on the market.

In case anyone else who is considering the game only sees the last few posts, n9103 isn't representative of the community in any way.  Just someone who in no way participated in the community.  If you're new to the game, definitely message us in game (My ign is also my name here), join the steam channel, etc. 

Very helpful group of people.  You'll have a bay12 starter pack in hours, and an endless amount of patience with any questions...because you will have a lot.

The one thing n9103 does demonstrate is that, like any game, this isn't for everyone.  If you expect consistent, quanitifiable progress, temper your expectations.  There can be days without what feels like growth or gain.  What gets lost, I think, is that there are many types of progress.  While you may have no serious skill gains for a few days, those days can be days spent producing profitable goods or expanding a home base.  There are many, many ways to grow in this game.

Let us know if you feel you've hit a frustrating wall.  Perhaps we can help you get around it, or allow you to give yourself credit for growth you didn't realize was happening.

I have been at a bit of a loss for what to do the ast week or so. All I do now is log in, chop down cedar trees and build the most complicated thing I can to raise my carpentry.

Any advice?

You could recruit a couple guards from the raven inn and go dungeoning. You're going to need to clear Mushroom Cave and Serwin Tower minimum to get to lanfar anyways, and rescuing Yraen is very, very strongly recommended.

Yeah, that's a good suggestion.  it really doesn't take too long to get through to Lanfar if you dedicate some time to dungeons and the quests daily.  Landel is the hardest part.  Just do Beryl park last, and it's not awful.  I believe the recommended order is Wolfera->Acacia->Beryl.  i'm not sure, because I just blundered through them when I did it.

If you're just looking for skill progression or some other tasks, you could easily make money supplying planks (cedar or maple will sell very quickly.), logs (maple is needed for steel ingots), or inn materials.  If you check the inn thread in the game forum, you'll be able to see what materials people will be asking for.  I believe maple frameworks are also something that is needed in higher quantities for some quarries/mines in Lanfar.

This should be enough to fund better tools for yourself, and workshops if you don't have any already.  If you don't have workshops, I could make you ~30 str workshops and ~3 str mills, you'd just have to supply me the lumber.

When you get to the parks, you'll need 17 mountain and 18 forest skill. First, go to Acacia, grab the proof right at the entrance, then go straight to the bottom-left until you can climb into a tree and get a key. Leave. If you have guards, they should be fine to defend you while you and yraen kill any ghosts.

Next, go to beryl, get the proof at the entrance, then, go down-right then down-left so you're near the bottom of the map. Use the first key to open the door, then talk to the dude there and get the proof. Move one square further down and get another proof. Leave beryl. There's a lot of nasty creatures in beryl, try to avoid fights with anything but rust eaters.

Now, go to wolvera, get the proof at the entrance, and follow the only path. Take a detour near the start to get a proof and a nice axe if you can, then continue along the path. At the end of the path, there should be an eagle and you can get the last proof you need. When fighting against wolves, have yraen defend you because he's the only thing that won't get murdered. Other than that wolvera fights are pretty easy.

There are a few other things you can do in landel islands, but that's enough to get you to unlock Lanfar. Oh, and if you see anything with blue stats, run for your life. Eliandel Eaters are very, very nasty things.

x3 hey guys, I just starting playing this game for few days. I'm thinking to join Bay 12 community.

I'm pretty hooked up right for now. My name in game is Leowulf (feel free to add me).  Fauna based... and I unlocked Tanning too since I think they seem connected.
Hunting at 17.3 (total) - waiting until it reach 20 then I will start the Tanning process.

Not so much progress on hero quest since I'm lacking of armor. I still used the same armor since I'm start . I'm thinking to craft my own leather armor. It might takes a while but I guess I prefer slow and steady and spend less money other than blades xD

I do need some guidance lo level up my Leadership skill. I know that to increase it I need to recruit people. So far I have Page (1), Guide (1), Forester (3), Big Guy (3) it bring 8.0 / 9.0 so I guess the next step is dropping Big Guy then recruit Guard is it not?

I'm out of this game too.
It is a very great community and my quit has nothing to do with the people from bay12 playing this game. Far from it...the people was what helped me to stay longer in this game.
I think it's simply not my playstyle what this game needs.

I put most of my stuff (primary archeology items) into the clan stash (sorry...it is visually nearly full now) plus a counter and the other things that Ksahte build me for my Lanfar home. I hope it can be used by someone else.
I communicated with Stonehands for the items and that I quit. I think I will be in game for a little longer to put the rest of the items into the clan stash (I had over 100 artifact notes that cannot be give away but I make archeology books out of it that can be used to make bookcases)

So...I have to thank you all (primary my guild Watchers of the bay) for a joyfull time and hope to read (and play) with some of you in the future again (an other game ).

I don't play very seriously though. Try and grind my way through a few more skills but that is about it.
