Yeah, Spanish (and German, to a lesser degree) have the most sensible spelling system.

And it needs to be Dúo, because it's pronounced that way(!).

The problem is that you can't use them in English, it's the problem for most English pronunciation.

There is no "one true" English, and our weird spelling issues are an obvious side effect of that.

Too bad German doesn't have a sensible grammar system Dx
Also, I feel like I'll need to buy a microphone if I ever want to seriously do this.

I love the community by the way:

The more utilitarian a website is, the crappier the comments section is.

Because that means people come there to DO something rather than just talk, so they're not interested in actually commenting, so the people who actually comment are either trolls or morons who can't google. Or something.

See: Difference between news comments, youtube, and Bay12.

Perhaps it has something to do with the level of interactivity in the website. Bay12 is about a video game with lots of interaction and control, so when you do it you need to be active. Youtube is a place to sit there and watch the lights on your computer make different shapes while you let a strand of drool slowly inch ever closer to the floor.

German grammar is best second-best grammar! Only Spanish grammar is more stringent!

PTW, in the hopes that they'll someday add Japanese. It would be incredibly useful in the IT field that I'm still wistfully trying to break into, even though I'm too old and underqualified.

German has strange grammar, from the perspective of English. Grammatical gender does not necessarily match biological gender. Apples are male; milk is female; bread is neuter; girls are neuter too.

girls are neuter too.
Only the small ones! Once they're fully grown (yes, innuendo, I know) they become female.

But you don't necessarily need to bother with grammar if you just want to learn how to communicate. It's more of a not-exactly-necessary-in-the-strictest-sense extra. Just like a car doesn't necessarily need a driver's seat.

For example, one of my vans I owned just had a bucket bolted to the floor. Perfectly functional, if not strictly speaking legal, per se...

Also, I've decided to do French too. After I make some progress, maybe I will make a "French Duolingo" thread for us to practice communicating in our new language.

In Standard / High German that is. In some dialects females stay girls forever.

"Girl" being grammatically neuter is perfectly logical though, the word for girl is a diminutive form of an archaic word and diminutives are always neuter.
