birds' lifting capacities
« on: March 09, 2014, 08:24:01 pm »

Is there a way to make it where "a small, green, intelligent mountain parrot" can fly away with small, lightweight items, but not wheelbarrows or bins of rock blocks?

Sadly no. At the moment carrying more than your strength allows just makes you move at the slowest possible speed rather than stopping you from moving.

who many would consider brave.
With a head like a block
he went out for a sock,
his ass I won't bother to save.

That's too bad.

If I remove CURIOUSBEAST_ITEM will it keep them from stealing anything at all?  In the absense of coins there's not much in the game that a small bird should be able to carry.

Never mind; I see it in the "creature token" page on the wiki.

Thanks.

I've actually analyzed older versions of DF, and in 40d and earlier it appears that creature size did limit the weight of items that they could steal. I haven't analyzed that same code in 0.31+, so I'm not sure if it behaves the same way.

P.S. If you don't get this note, let me know and I'll write you another.
It's amazing how dwarves can make a stack of bones completely waterproof and magmaproof.
It's amazing how they can make an entire floodgate out of the bones of 2 cats.

Soldier: Are you suggesting coconuts migrate?
King Arthur: Not at all. They could be carried.
Soldier: What? A swallow carrying a coconut?
King Arthur: It could grip it by the husk!
Soldier: It's not a question of where he grips it! It's a simple question of weight ratios! A five ounce bird could not carry a one pound coconut.

Soldier: Are you suggesting anvils migrate?
King Arthur: Not at all. They could be carried.
Soldier: What? A swallow carrying an anvil?
King Arthur: It could grip it by the base!
Soldier: It's not a question of where he grips it! It's a simple question of weight ratios! A five ounce bird could not carry a hundred pound anvil.

Fixed that for you. It's always the damn anvils ;l
