It's so good, but you should attempt to pace yourself because it's 8 hours long and once it's done, there is no replayability.

Outer Wilds is also good, too, if you like the mystery aspect. It has the same problem, though, but it's a bit longer.

I too will endorse Obra Dinn. I can't think of any other games that are like it, and I'm impressed by story it managed to tell through its game mechanics.

There are some setups that include a "Romeo and Juliet" pair - one Mafia and one Townie working together to kill off everyone else and be together. I've never actually seen such a setup before, but I know it's possible. I'm not sure how balanced it is, which is probably why I have never encountered it.

In Gnosia, there is a random event-chain that leads to a "Romeo and Juliet" pair being formed - in this case, a "Gnosia" Player and a "Crew" SQ collaborating together to take out everyone else.

There are Youtube video about this event-chain, but they're all in Japanese. Luckily though, someone just uploaded an English video of the Player and SQ working together, and it's entertaining to watch.

You know, I kind of like that idea. They should be lovers. If one dies, the other also dies. Town Romeo is essentially a cross between a mafia-ally and a survivor with a trickier win condition. The weird part is mafia Juliet. Her existence is a bastard role since it undermines the premise of the mafia being able to trust their allies, but I think it can be balanced on a team that has no vigs. Juliet's strategy would to be to convince her teammates to perform unnecessary buses, and then to turn on her final buddy once it's just the two of them. If the votes do flow that way though, I see no reason why the mafia wouldn't out Juliet as the final scum. They're going to lose anyway, might as well take the traitor with them.

Unless the mafia still wins if Juliet wins. Now that would be interesting. It's probably the only way of giving the mafia a fair chance of winning since there is probably going to be a smaller scum team due to Romeo's anti-town nature.


The endgame scenarios are a little tricky, though I guess they'd play out similarly if Romeo was just your bog-standard mafia-ally. Here we assume mafia does not win if Lovers win.

1 mafia, 1 Juliet mafia, 1 town, and 1 town Romeo.

Mafia automatically wins since they tie the vote. No game actually happens, the lovers lose. If you did decide to run the turn, then suddenly the lovers are almost certain to to win. Town has zero chance at winning, but the mafia can only win if they work together with the townie to tie the vote, and then nail romeo during the night.

1 Romeo, 1 town, 1 juliet.

Juliet and romeo vote for the townie. The lovers win.

1 Romeo, 2 town, 1 juliet.

Juliet and Romeo can tie any votes the townies make and force a no-lynch. This round should not be played. Lovers should automatically win at this point.

Overall, I like the idea and want to see how it plays out in an actual bastard game. The results may not be as impressive as the theory, but it would make a fun novelty for a one-off.
