So with the end of Icy's game and people discussing their first mafia games, I got curious how my first game went down and I just realized I may have one of the most embarrassing first game stories.

I managed to get myself lynched as an un-CC'd cop in a beginner mafia game.

Surprising no one, town lost the champ game, with 3/4 scum still alive, with two vig shots against town players.

I got lynched D1 in my first game after panicking and going after an IC. Crushed it as scum in my next game though.

Haven’t had a good run of things lately, unfortunately, but ah well. Thinking of getting back into a game, just not sure if I’m there yet.

Nah.  Town had literally one way forward to win, they had to lynch one of our KPs (or our backup) that day or they lost.  So when three townies hopped on our roleblocker we all piled onto them for a quickhammer victory.

To be fair they'd probably lost anyway, what with how badly we'd massacred their PRs (they had no PRs left, we had two vig's, a backup, and a roleblocker out of six scum) but we decided to end it off in style.  Mod called the game after the lynch because it was mechanically locked.

I decided to look at what my earliest game was.

I was bad. I mean, I'm bad now, but back then I had absolutely no idea what I was doing. The only reason I can guess that I wasn't lynched day 1 was because it was abundantly clear that I couldn't even play. Then, the moment I bandwagoned day 2 it became obvious i was scum and I got killed almost instantly.

Yeah, everyone's first game is generally embarrassing as hell.

I went back and checked my real first game before I had the doll account recently and unfortunately the posting style was distinctive enough that someone could actually draw the comparison
My first game as doll (P25 or w/e) was still pretty embarassing, it was pretty clear I didn't understand the difference between 'scum' and 'anti-town' so I had no way forward from arguing with bad!town and largely gave up because of it
tbh there's no level of bad that can't be excused by making an honest effort, so long as there's enough life in the game that your activity causes you to slip and clear yourself and the other players can find scum while moving 'around you', so to speak
But yeah, there's nothing I could reccomend more than 'lurk moar' as advice for new players. b12 is archived and even has a guide to games to read (though it's far from perfect) so anyone who has literal personal time to read can get up to a pretty strong level through reading a lot of games and then suffering through one game as a newfag before they get their feet under them
The real struggle is that you can't get experience as scum easily since you're statistically unlikely to roll it and so even otherwise strong players can suffer.
I, for one, have had one single scum game on b12/a forum and it was a dead game where I had to play a town game to keep it alive and I have no third party experience, not that third parties are really anything other than cops
