Also interested. I'd look into fallout 1 and 2 as to key words for comments, and maybe a way of storing comments for back-reference for both the player and the AI who will pick out key words to form opinions on whose guilty.

I'm excited to see how it turns (heh) out!

Can the players change and cancel their votes? If so, there's a gamebreaker:
  • Alice votes for Charlie.
  • Bob votes for Charlie. If Charlie is Evil, the game ends and Good wins. If not, Charlie is confirmed Good.
  • Charlie doesn't vote.
  • Alice votes for Bob.
  • Bob cancels his vote.
  • Charlie votes for Bob. If Bob is Evil, the game ends and Good wins. If not, Bob is confirmed Good and Alice Evil.
  • Alice's vote is irrelevant if the game gets to this point.
  • Bob doesn't vote.
  • Charlie votes for Alice.
  • Alice's vote is irrelevant if the game gets to this point.
  • Bob votes for Alice. Alice is Evil, so the game ends and Good wins.
The method is to only have two people voting for the third at the same time, using the game's end condition to confirm Goodness.

Edit: Conversely, if votes cannot be changed or cancelled, the game is decided the moment one of the Good players votes, which probably isn't ideal.

It looks like votes cannot be changed or cancelled, but are secret. Therefore, the ending is not yet determined if the first good player to vote correctly votes for the evil player: either the other player will make the same vote and they win, or he will make the wrong vote and they lose.

Still, it doesn't seem at all like a pointful game.

Good point. Let me change how wincons work to make the game more interesting:

The game still ends once both Good players have voted. If a Good player has voted for the Evil player, they win the game. If the Evil player hasn't been voted for by both of the Good players, they win the game. If both of the Good players vote the Evil player, the Good players get a perfect win. If neither of the Good players vote the Evil player, the Evil player gets a perfect win.

Does that sound like a good solution? Despite having more
of a self-centered wincon, Good players are still incentivized to share information because it will still lead to them finding out who the Evil player is. Additionally, once one of the Good players has locked in their vote, there's no reason why they shouldn't try to help out their teammate.

Anyway, I made the discord. Just sign up there, and I'll send you your role(s).

Feel free to sign up for multiple games if you want to. I'm fine with running up to around 3ish games at once, since they're pretty low maintenance.

Maybe there should be a spectator's quicktopic.

Or join and get modkilled immediately so you have access to Dead chat.

Yeah it would only work this way imo, having other people's comments available to players of an ongoing game seems too much interference to me.

I've had spectator's quicktopics before. They work ok, you just only give it out to people not in the game who specifically ask for it.

If you're talking about the only one running right now I wouldn't mind setting up a spectator's quicktopic if I was asked.

Would you like to play a game of Mafia? The subforum is always open to new players.

I hope Toady fixes the search function soon. It’s rather important in mafia and I worry that if he just gives up on it then it will hurt the health of the game even more.

EDIT: By that I meant, I too occasionally visit.
All my other mafia time has been taken up by IRL mafia and other IRL stuff...

Though I've seriously been spending weekends on a mafia game engine thingie.
It's been going slowly, but I am confident I ended up programming a really good action resolution mechanism.

I’m curious to see what everyone’s alignment and role were. I want to know how badly I was screwing over my team. Honestly, I got more people killed than the mafia.
