Just go with it.

Some of the most interesting games have been run by people with minimal experience.

Probably not a hard-and-fast number. I think I played in 6 games before running a small one myself but there's no requirements here. Obviously, the more people know your name, the more they'll trust you to run a game but usually you won't struggle to find players.

Thanks, I'll probably start with something like a vengeful mafia game to keep things simple.

That'd make sense. A mafia sprint BM is also an option (it's only 7 players and it takes a week or less to run).

I'm thinking of running a game fairly soon and I've only played 2 games of Mafia thus far. (A BM Sprint game and a Paranormal game that has yet to end.)

Another point: every day, there has to be some game-changing desperately made attention-grabbing gimmick.

Politibastard was far and away the best game I played here that incorporated gameplay shifts.  It's a great read (and an awesome concept that kept everyone guessing.)
