They're very large deviations from the setting though-- different techs doesn't make a huge difference in this case since "techs" are an alien and unique concept in the first place.
Still, two people isn't too much of a bother, and I really shouldn't whine about it.

I'm kind of unhappy with the sudden festival of fantech characters because to me it feels like it's throwing a wrench (badumtish)in the setting by having more than one of them-- that'd imply a certain kind of normalcy to it that a sole character just doesn't have.

Most of my problem came from having another scientist-who-is-also-a-mage-with-a-non-biological-horse, which when you boil it down to bare essentials is what Jasmine is.
