Naw should all fit. My fighter craft are actually pretty small. Tough as frick and damned well armed. But small.

I also significantly reduced the strength and size of the C.A.C. No capital ship weaponry or anything. Heavy duty guns yes. But not capital ship sizes. It'll fit.

The ship doesn't have a med bay?

I need to know the size of the ship from sanure, first, but i'm leaning towards no - because a fighter needs more than just space to cram it.

Sounds kinda like typical marines or naval special forces to me.

The thing with refitting the cargo bay is that we need to put that cargo somewhere. Food. Oxygen. Spare parts, weapons, drones, all those need to be stored somewhere.

It also relies on the pirates swallowing the bait. What's to stop a cautious commander coming in with a pincer movement? Or simply blowing off any potential weapons before we can shoot? Or their ship outguns and outmans us.

----

How so? The ship is plenty big enough to carry my units on top of it's crew.

But can it carry multiple fighters, pilots, and maintainance on top of that, includign the extra supplies required by such with less cargo room?

It can carry it all and once it's modified it'll have all the equipment needed for maintaining them. It's also why I'm only using the drone area. Since I reduced the size of the C.A.C and selected a fighter design that's fairly small I won't need to touch the cargo bays at all.

The fighters design will allow them to be fitted into racks above ground level leaving floor space empty for the C.A.C and repair bays.

I remain doubtful.

Consider a 280 m long aircraft carrier carries up to 40 aircraft, and thats specialised towards the task. You want to carry an extra 21 ships - one, at least, that has to be large to carry soldiers - in a small drone bay, along with the supplies, tools, and crew necessary to maintain them.

That's another thing. You'll also need flight crew. My engineering guys will be busy with their tasks already, so you need more crew. So you need more supplies, and you need more space to then fit everything...

Also, consider launching. Launching one at a time is comparatively slow, relies on the enemies not having fighters of their own or suitable flak defences.

As I said, I remain doubtful.

Well it's either the drone bay or strip out a cargo bay for it and refit the drone bay as a new cargo bay. Either one works for me.

Flight crew aren't needed my pilots will do that for themselves on the fighters and my commandos are the crew for the C.A.C. All that's needed is a flight control officer. 1-2 men ain't gonna make much difference.

Can I suggest we just try it IC? Discussing it here achieves nothing because we won't actually know until we try.

on the ship's image it's number 13. 13 is the medical bay.

The ship can hold 320 people.

The bridge has 20 people

Medical can hold 10, engineering has 30, and so on and so on.

Yes, the ship can hold 40 ships if the Drone bay is remodeled into a hanger.

Well, i need more knowledge before I could reply, really.

A pilot is not ground crew. The USAF, for example, has six men on each ground crew. A pilot, even if he was trained in aircraft maintainance, is not six guys.

A pilot can't replace his ground crew without having both a crappy craft and crappy skill. It simply doesn't work like that. You commandos are trained in maintaining spacecraft? Thats a new one. These need a bit more than welding on a new axle, you know.

----

ninja'd.

Let's work this out.

25 craft. Say each only requires 4 ground crew because future. Right, that's only 100 extra people we need for ground crew.

25.

20 fighters and 5 C.A.C. But as far as I'm aware you don't have 1 crew to every craft. A dedicated flight team can keep them all well maintained.

Either way, let's not argue this and instead RP. This will be my only warning :P

This is only a discussion Sanure.
But to finish things swiftly. How many men in a flight team would be required to handle 40 craft?

As long as we need to wait though, we can get that refit underway and find out what other upgrades are available. I'd suggest adding weaponry and enhancing shields and engines but thats more from a commando stand point.

How many navigators does the Fighters need and how many pilots. Also, how many of each for the C.A.C?

Well the fighters are 1 man craft.

The C.A.C has pilot, co-pilot who operates the main weapons unless the pilot is out of action and 2 gunners on the quads.
